We need to unify as Americans to switch the standard. Donors are not freedom. When you link debate qualifying to donations and donors, you're creating a de facto socialism model in both the DNC and RNC. Why can't someone be a surprise? Maybe the surprise is the right President.

Not arguing that those folks are not too old.

But voters should not vote for dinosaurs if they don't want them to serve. The whole problem lies with the voters - that is, with the American public at large.

I don’t about the feelings of paid lobbyists or bootlickers in here about how young Americans can’t run for office because of money. These backward thinking people are the reason why America is such a s***hole country. This isn’t the 1950s anymore. Many democracies around the world have term limits. Many did away with jury system.

Hell even Mexico has term limits. 5 years for president. 12 years for legislatures, 20 years for judges, and same goes for every local office. It has done wonders overcoming corruption. Viva AMLO!

People of California continued to vote for Feinstein. Age didn't make Feinstein a corrupt tool of M.I.C. Age didn't make Feinstein a greedy crook with her insider trading.

Maybe we should just go into a Walmart, McDonald's, YMCA, child care center, UPS, etc. and helping every day citizens to run for office.

I agree! Too darned many old folks running this place! Younger people would at least have to stick around to suffer the results of their mistakes while in office.

Not happening. The only people with the power to make such legislation are dominated by old folks. It’s like asking congress to pass legislation banning stock trading for congresspeople with any teeth to it.

You could also legitimately argue that age is a number and any hardcoded limit will be unfair to some old and capable candidates. If they really are demented, people just won’t vote for them. If they lose it midterm, there’s not much you can do except impeachment.

that being said something like 16-20 year term limits for the Supreme Court is probably better than appointment for life. Heck I would even be ok with a reappointment if people thought you were still fit for the job…

It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with corruption. Term limits put limits on the time people have to create networks. Not that it stopped Harris -- she has already made like $12m in 3 years as VP...

Funny that now both CA senators will be people hand-picked by whoever the globalist criminal gang is that runs this godforsaken state.

And yet the supreme court is by far the least corrupt of the three branches of federal government... The pseudo-liberal ones seem to have no interest in upholding the Constitution, but I'm not sure that is because they're expecting a payday from Blackrock or whoever is mainly behind the uniparty criminal gang.

Those arguing for supreme court term limits might consider the fact that the Supreme Court is meant to change extremely slowly. This is by design. And it is a good design. Fashions and panics come and go. Old folks see this better than other people.

Right now most of the government seems to think it has a right to police speech, to jail political opponents, and to forcibly inject the population with whatever pharmaceutical companies wants to sell. Let's thank our lucky stars that the Supreme Court (and many courts) are doing their part to protect our rights. If the politicians had their way, we'd have virtually none.

Yeah like I get it that Sen Feinstein wanted to keep doing the work and thought she had more to give but the last couple years its been pretty obvious she should have stepped aside. Nobody should be literally dying of old age still trying to cling to their elected seat. Once she reached the point of having serious issues she should have stepped down.

Though I don't think age limits in necessarily the right answer because everyone ages differently. Hard to do a fair cut off when some people are good in their 80s while some people should be done before 70.

Maybe there should just be some non-binding rule that says once you start having age related incapacities it is the duty of the elected official to step down, or something like that. Cuz Feinstein totally should have a couple years ago, just like McConnell should be stepping down this year.

Anyway, the main problems with politics in America isn't term/age limits, its the fact that we have an entrenched two party system in which we have one mediocre-to-decent party (the Democrats) and one all-out corrupt insane reality-challenged extremist party (the Republicans). So that really we only have one viable party which has to constantly try to protect us against the unhinged party that's always trying to burn the whole nation down. Age/term limits is childs play compared to that.

I dunno about Supreme Court being by far the least corrupt. I mean Repubs in the House and Senate are extremely corrupt, but the conservatives on the Supreme Court are also pretty corrupt. They are currently going through a major ongoing corruption scandal. Really the only thing we can say for sure is that wherever you find Republicans in government you will find massive corruption. Though that's not an age/term issue cuz with the self-radicalizing of the Republicans party and conservative america and their total break with reality the past 30 years any new repubs that replace old repubs are going to be on average more corrupt than the old already very corrupt repubs.
