For the first time since 2020, the World Half is back, and with a rebrand and expansion as the event formerly known as the World Half now has mile and 5k championships as well.
There's a lot to criticise World Athlerics for, but the rebrand from HM Championships to Road Running Championships, and expansion into the road mile and road 5k is the best decision they've made in ten years.
I'm genuinely looking forward to the weekend's events, and that's not something I could have said about the Half Marathon World Championships.
Aregawi is not racing now with Kejelcha and Gebrhiwet the two Ethiopian men in the 5k who are the favourites in the race. Additionally Kenya has Kimeli and Kemboi (no Waithaka, only 2 per country allowed).
For HM Kenya cut Charles Langat for men and Janet Chepngetich for women with only 4 allowed to start. Tough for those 2 as they were both in Riga, but are to race Tokyo Legacy and Valencia halfs respectively in the coming weeks

Maybe I’m wrong but I thought you were allowed to score 2 enter 3?
EDIT: I’m wrong, don’t love the rule
EDIT2: Disappointed with Ethiopia’s HM squad, feel like they’re in a bit of a talent drought for HM guys/young marathoners

Adidas sponsored athletes in the half, including Irine Kimais who was not yet wearing EVO in February at Barcelona for her 1:04 (she also ran a 1:04 in 2017)
