I mean one race for $500 is not being serious for mass marketing.
But if a company wanted a loophole around IAAF shoe rules, all they have to do is produce a small batch of very expensive consumer copies of a shoe and now they have a way to give them to their athletes for the WMM, various country trials and Olympics
The people buying them may not even be runners, there are fashion shoe flipper who know how to grab things fast from company factory websites the second they drop, they do this with all the special limited release vaporflys since 2017
See the flipping websites like stockx, they are selling $1000-$3000 now, it was all flippers grabbing them
What a waste. Adidas should've just given them to it's athletes. Sure, that'd be a loss of ~$250,000, but it would've been better marketing. The people buying them at $1000+ aren't doing anything with the shoes, but walking.

You can’t wear a shoe in competition if it’s not offered for sale.
The EVO may be a world record setting shoe but the interesting thing is Adidas didn't really "beat" Nike at their game when you consider Nike made a shoe they can sell tens of thousands and Adidas only 500
Is the EVO really going to increase Adidas sales of their other shoes which are much heavier?
Now if Adidas makes a 2nd generation EVO next year that is half the price and lasts twice the miles, at least 100, well then all bets are off.
The thing is though, Seb Coe et al, have now set us up for a nightmare where these records will be on the books for decades like the old Soviet and "Ma's Army" records.
Imagine Boston by the end of the decade having a open qualifying time of 2:45 - it's 2:55 now so that's not far fetched
and another olympic cycle or two, OTQ will definitely be sub 2:30 women and 2:15 men

I keep hearing that the Evo construction is only meant to hold up for one race. But where did that info come from? Is it just a rumor, or does anyone have a source that validates this claim?

According to the Runner's World article, a card that came inside the box with shoes says that the shoe “is meant for road racing only and optimized for one race.”
That's crazy. Imagine spending all that money and bonking at mile 14 and DNF'ing. 😭 What happens to your Evos then? Are they still good for first 13 miles of your next marathon? Lol. Maybe you can switch shoes mid race into a new pair.
