This ethiopian guy is born in 2002 and runs already a 2h03'24" marathon. He will break the WR and be the first man running a sub 2h marathon. At his age Kiptum wasn't running marathons at all.

He was impressive, 8:09 steeplechaser and Olympian in Tokyo. I was surprised he turned to the roads then the marathon and now this performance was excellent. Wonder what it will take to gain Olympic selection, probably another strong performance next spring
We have seen many people make fast debuts in the marathon and then don't come close to it again e.g. Adola. Let him run a second marathon and try to get below 2.02.00 first before such stupid statements. Kiptum has run below 2.02.00 twice already. Nothing this guy has done shows he can close a marathon like Kiptum.
When you think about the money available and combine that with the cost of living in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya, these runners don't have to make the Olympic Team to be well off.
I remember about 10-15 years ago reading an article about a Kenyan woman who won $2000 in a marathon in Nairobi and she was able to:
Pay her and her mother's rent for a year, buy herself and her mother TV's and herself a care and have enough left over to live comfortably for the year.
What would that take in the US? Imagine if American distance runners knew that winning a low paying, minor marathon could set them up for a year?
Now, add in more money for a place in a major marathon? Give them a shoe contract? They could set themselves up for life with a couple races a year for 3-5 years.
They can pay more Money Than is in Fort Knox, but if they do not have the talent/Genetics a Man will nit break 2:01 and a Woman will not break 2:12
There is no Amount of Money that could train a Donkey to win the Kentucky Derby so to say.
But everyone can have fun and Improve, you can even work up to the point you can copy The daily, weekly, monthly Yearly etc training of the World Record Holders, but you will likely run slower than them unless you have an Insane amount of Talent yourself EXAMPLE Grant Fisher MIGHT have The Talent to break a World Record in the Marathon as 7:25 for 3000, 12:46 for 5000 and 26:33 for 10000 is major ability for anyone In Fact Fisher is faster than E. Kipchoge ever was in the 10000 and they have similar 3000 and 5000 times still The odds would be against Grant Fisher ever setting a World Record in the Marathon.
