USA USA USA
It is happening now even elite women will be beating top American marathoners. Yes American marathoning is mediocre but this performance by this chick is just phenomenal.
Can you tell us more about your problem so we can discuss further?
Best male marathon Olympic finisher since, when?
Yet, now we take shots at him.
He is already planning his next phase in life.
He has accomplished as much as he ever thought he would , and more.
There are those that do, and those that talk about those that do.
you can recognise he is a great runner whilst also finding it funny that the best american runner (if we exclude Mekonen who is Ethiopian) was paced all the way to the finish line by a woman. the two are not mutually exclusive.
Best since Rupp finished 3rd a few minutes before him.
Jared is/was great at the marathon, this 2:11 is actually one of his best times. But US marathoning has gotten a lot deeper in the past several years, especially the last few years. A 2:11 guy is no longer one of our best, we will have several sub 2:10's this year, we already have three of them, and Mantz/Rupp and a couple others are likely to do it this weekend in Chicago with the great weather forecast. So our top Americans are now sub 2:09 or faster guys. People will downvote this, but it's true, we have nearly a dozen active sub 2:10 guys right now, most are 2:09. Rupp, Mantz, Korir, Nico, Panning, Simbassa, Futsum, Kibet, Fauble, McDonald, Bennie, Droddy. I may even be missing a couple, but that is 12 guys who have run sub 2:10 since the last olympic trials and will be lining up in February. And someone like Clayton Young could be added to the list this weekend, as he is similar fitness right now as Mantz and training with Mantz.
And don't say it's the shoes, the shoes came out in 2016, every brand had them by late 2019. This 2023 year is the fastest yet after this weekend when Rupp and Mantz run sub 2:08 and we have a handful of other 2:09 guys who have already done it this year.
Best Olympic "finisher" Not talking about time. I will wait to see how the USA Olympic runners do in the Olympic marathon. Please stay on topic.
Rupp won bronze, genius.

Yes, it was only American men that were beat by a "fantastic" female runner.
who said that?
I realize this thread is old now but I want to bring up the curious question of why Jared Ward has some amazing 61 halfs, including before super-shoes and as recently as a couple years ago. yet is not a sub-2:10 marathoner
The third-generation saucony endorphin pro "elite" (which he actually helped develop) is almost exactly as good as the vaporfly in lab tests. he should be capable of running 2:07 in theory on paper
Is he just not doing the miles (anymore) ? Because that would explain the great performance up to the half but not beyond.enquiring minds wrote:

It's a bit past 8:15am Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Do you think they are typing, what if ... regarding their 10.40 & 10.45 100m men?
he has been dealing with a huge amount of injuries
