A mile in the 4:10-4:15 range equates to a Marathon in the 2:15 range, Olympic trials time.
It’s typical internet BS that takes places in all areas and has no basis in reality.
Even if you can run a mile that fast, it has no market value. Running becomes a lot more enjoyable when you accept that no one gives a sh!t about your running.
The purgatory I live in as an active user. Thank you all!
P..s I still enjoy running
The average lay person would struggle to run an 8-10min mile so a 4:11 would be supersonic to them.
Of course, but I think he was directing that to the elitist faction here. And I suspect most here would agree 4:11 is a very good time if not extremely good.

Yes, the Elitist faction none of whom make a dime running.

4:11 is faster than 99.9% of the world and probably about 98% of people who have ran/trained competitively for a mile in the history of the world.
most ppl posting on letsrun haven’t ran that fast (statistically speaking this must be a fact).
It’s kind of like how ppl call an NFL Quarterback complete garbage on Twitter. They are one of the best 100 players in that world at that position still. But they are garbage compared to Tom Brady. Letsrun equates to that
Well, I was a 4:05 guy in college. Every so often it comes up in my CrossFit class and people look at me astonished that I could do that at one time. Meanwhile, all I remember is NEVER winning a race, and mostly finishing in the mid/back of the pack.
So yes, even to the average fit person, it sounds really fast. But to those of us who are/were around it all the time, it's no big deal at all.
But what is kind of funny is that just about every bs'er I've ever run into who flippantly claims they ran track in HS.... It's usually about 4:12 that they say they ran.
I've always figured that the average guy that knows that 4 minutes is still a marker for being a good miler. So going with 4:12 gives them a bit of a cushion in terms of credulity.
In reality I think runners would respect a 4:12 than lay people who would see 3:43 as the WR and then think 4:12 would be easily attainable.
4:11 is ofc fast, that's a damn good mile PR but its also very easy to get desensitised to when you see 5 or 6 relative nobodies run this at your local weekly city track league. Its kind of a no mans land where recreational and fast clash.
But then again, you've probably got bigger issues to deal with than your PR if you feel slighted by anonymous opinions of your running ability.
I ran D1 track in college and 4:11 is a legit time. With a 4:11 mile you can pretty much run or get on the team at most D1 schools. I remember looking at Ole Miss standards and I think their scholarship standard was around 4:13 or so. When you take out a lot of the major invitationals most college miles are won in around a 4:15 or so. If you don't believe me go on tfrrs and click on any random meet. Also most colleges in the country don't even have a 4:11 miler on the team. If you add in D2 and D3 you'd see this. Its very easy on the echo chamber of letsrun to get lost in times especially when you follow the pro circuit and are seeing guys run 3:43. One of my college team mates ran around 4:12 and I remember him wining or placing high in most of the 1500 or miles that he ran at invitationals.
The real question is why you would care what others think about your running? Do you care what we think about your car? Your favorite TV shows? Your fashion sense? Your cooking ability?
Who cares? For example, I think I can make a taco that is as good as almost any in the world, but I don't plan to quit my day job and seek the approval of strangers by talking about my cooking skills... It just a really good taco. Just like a 4:11 mile. It is really, really good but don't expect anyone else to care.
None of us should expect other people to care about our hobbies.
