In swimming, that WR line is perfect - crystal clear, you know exactly where the swimmer needs to be in relation to that line for whatever record they’re chasing. Golf shots - looks smooth and solid. First down markers - easy to see and understand yellow line. Wavelight? what a hot mess. Can barely see it, it’s different colors, is it the front light? the tail?

Almost nobody is watching anyway, so hardly any incentive to make it clearer.
Wavelight's main purpose is pacing while the WR line can't even be seen by swimmers.
I wholeheartedly agree. The dots look so ugly.
Do you guys understand that the lights are real and visible to the runners and in-person spectators? They weren’t meant to look any certain way on TV and they are not digitally added, they are actual lights on the track/curb.
They lights represent a time that is known to the runners and agreed before hand.
As others have said, these are two completely different things with different purposes. One is a guideline for television viewers, the other is an in person visual cue for the runners. Being able to see it on TV at all is a bonus, not the main purpose.
With that said...I see no reason why, in the future, they couldn't network share the wavelight timing configuration with the broadcaster, and then the broadcaster could render a line on the track corresponding with the actual wavelight position. The technology already exists - it's just a matter of them spending the resources to make it happen.
