Hotel chains aren't idiots; they're using algorithms to maximize income. It doesn't help that the government flooded the country with free money and many are willing to spend anything for unique experiences. Capitalism usually sorts these things out very quickly but all the free money out there is distorting the supply/demand curve.
I think so. Eugene has since the mid 1970s reeled at the L.A. Rejects who ruined Oregon.
Ya if you want a room you can expect 4x or more of what the price should actually be. Hotel industry is sleazy.
Anyone can lock out thousands of rooms to others by making a reservation on tne hotel website or through a third party hotels service. That will drive up the price to others prospects. Then a few days before the date of the hotel stay, release the reservation so as to not owe anything.
Eugene welcomes you to bring your tent and pitch it on the river alongside its thousands of other transient/homeless residents. No need to waste money on comfort.
The conspiracy loons are here! Major corporations using calendars and algorithms couldn't be responsible for raising prices on the dates of a major event. Nope, a bunch of Ken Kesey fans and NIMBYs are hitting Expedia and Kayak hard.
What hotels? Don't you mean motels?
Just like the trust funded fanboi running sites the travel industy sites were developed decades ago in the US then offshored to save money.
It's Eugene school kids who tell their parents what to to get rid of the filthy tourist in their neighborhoods.
US regulators can't touch the offshore companies.
Eugene Schools FTW!
Airlines oversell seats then ;passengers sit and wait for hours.
My daughter graduated from the university in May, and the local motel rates two to three times their normal price over that weekend. It was annoying.
Eugene motel owners probably keep an eye out for athletic events that are coming to town and adjust their rates accordingly for those periods. And I imagine there was some normal surge in reservations by coaches, athletes, and families after it was announced that the 2024 Olympic Trials will be held in Eugene. If the trials were held in a large city the uptick in demand would be better absorbed and there would be little to no fluctuation in rates.
Easy peasy. Fly into Portland or Eugene. Rent a pickup with a canopy. Buy an air mattress and sleep in the back of the pickup. Shower? No problem. There are Planet Fitnesses everywhere. Join for $10-20 a month and use their facilities. Park anywhere in Eugene that you please, no hassle!
Unless you are near campus or downtown, the crowds from a track meet aren’t noticeable. And many of the businesses (shops, restaurants, and hotels of course) rely on Hayward’s events. To think that Eugene residents don’t want the track meets is, like, really really dumb dude.
The hotel rates are crazy, I get it, but it happens everywhere. As someone mentioned. Rent a car you can sleep in, stop at a dispensary, and hot box yourself to sleep at a trailhead parking lot or something. We’re chill here.
I'm sure it must be the 24th Street area homeowners who are using a $10 gift card to reserve hotel rooms way in advance. That's not very neighborly atall.
we were there for the last 3 days for dropping off our child at UO. The prices were a minimum of $400 a night if you could get a room. Parent’s weekend is worse.
It’s not a conspiracy, it’s supply and demand
Lots of haters on this topic. You cant change history. GO PRE!!

Capitalism at its best.
Most likely hotels jack prices way up right after the announcement of the event to capitalize on anyone who is going no matter what - broadcast teams, journalists, sponsors, etc. I suspect prices will drop a bit once those initial sales dry up.
It's the residents who are mad that they didn't fully build underground parking to handle the fans
Buy a $5 gift card then make 1,000 room reservations on Priceline, and then don't show up.

I suppose all you down voters believe that Eugene is the only place where hoteliers raise rates for special events. Many must not travel much or if they do, they sleep on someone's couch.
