Ryun would definitely clean up in the 800. He set a meet record that stood for over 50 years in that event. He was better at the 800 than the mile. But I'm not sure he was fastest over 400 meters. Peter Snell looked like he was a sprinter and most folks have forgotten that he mostly ran on grass, dirt, clay, and cinder tracks. He certainly never ran on a mondo track!
Milers rarely run the 400 all out, but Coe and Ryun both had several impressive relay legs in the 4 X 440 or 4 X 400.
Ryun would have no chance of beating coe at his best in the 800m, not Even close
Well the case might be closer than you think. Ryun ran 1:44.9 for 880 yards, apparently worth 1:44.3 for 800m, when he was just 19 years old. Not sure how good the shoes or track were, but it was 1966. There is a chance that those two at the height of their powers, with the same footwear and track, might have been very close at 800m. Not to say Coe wouldn’t win, as he probably would, but it damn well might have been close.

Amos has his pb from age 18. Peaking as a teen is unusal but not that rare, espesially when you train as hard as ryun did. You can look at coes wr race and decide if you believe the the track and shoes is the reason for his over 3 seconds faster. I understand ryun is a god to many on this board but rating him over coe in the 800m is crazy pb.
1981 - On a very poor track, Sebastian Coe sets a WR of 1:41.73 that would last until 1997 when the great Wilson Kipketer hit his own wonderful peak. Coe bro...
Depends on if it's in lanes, or breaks after the first curve. Ovett would thunder across and punch everyone. Walker might knock him out, though, I'm thinking. That would leave Snell and Coe off the final curve.

Amazing that this post was down-voted.
Well the reason it was downvoted might be the “no chance” part. Seb Coe couldn’t win a gold medal at 800m although I know the thread says at their peak. Well probably Coe wins, like I said, but I would give Henry Rono a chance to beat Galen Rupp at 10000m. Sometimes you just go with your gut. Maybe it is a 1/100 chance.
