After his double victory at Pre, Ingebrigtsen shared advice for those attempting double threshold and why he believes he can break every WR from 1500 through the marathon.
i applaud the attitude and drive but he's still a ways away from the WR in his premier event, and has only set WRs in "off" events (not diminishing them, the 2 mile was crazy good).
We should probably be talking about which premier record he has the best shot at (probably the 3k, or the mile if you count that) before discussing which would be the hardest
The shortest and longest are the hardest, so 1500 and marathon.
We have so little information about Jakob's abilities in the half marathon and marathon that it remains pure speculation until he actually runs one. The current records from 2000 to 10 000 should be possible in my opinion.
The athletes he reminds me of most with his brashness and confidence and boldness are a 22 year old Muhammad Ali or a 22 year old Michael Jordan. He's built from their same stuff. This is innate, you just can't teach this kind of confidence and he's had it since he was in elementary school. Some of the things he would say when he was 10 years old on Team Ingebrigtsen, same things he is saying now!
Kipchoge is better at the marathon than Jakob is at any events he runs. I believe Jakob can get the world records from 1500m to 5k, no question, but above that?
Ultimately, Jakob’s best event is the 3k. 3k runner’s especially those with a 1500m background can struggle relatively in the 10k. Now it wouldn’t surprise me if Jakob could win a tactical 10k at worlds but a 3:43 miler isn’t running two 13:05 5ks back to back, no matter how many double thresholds they run. Physiology is real and can’t be ignored.
And the marathon, really? Jakob’s form would be terrible for the marathon, it’s smooth and powerful on the track, but like Galen and Mo it’s to springy and not relaxed enough to get under 2:04.
I don’t care if you give Jakob wave lights on the road, vaporflies with roller blades in them, or an army of pacers, he’s not running faster than 2:01:09 in the marathon. Even if he made it to that pace at 20 miles, he’s just too big and fast twitch for the marathon.
Jakob could have had the 3000m record in 2023 but there is a much better chance that he will get no more world records than that he would get all of them. In fact, I would guess he will not get the 1500/mile records and he will not the steeplechase nor anything 10000m or longer. So realistically his only chances are the 3000m and 5000m. Injuries and/or stagnation are also possibilities.
Easiest is the mile he just needs another attempt and its probably gone.
3K he should technically be able to do it with better conditions considering his current results in other distances, but it remains to be seen and he's still far away results wise.
Steeple I think he needs some prep but he could gut it out with his fitness. Girma literally did the same off some suspect hurdling down the stretch.
5K he's probably not going to attempt for awhile until he breaks the lower distances, but I think he can drop a sub 12:45 for sure in any race and the rest is just reliant on good pacers and competition.
Everything below here is a long shot.
1500 seems far away for now. 1 second is a world away at that distance, and he honestly just might not be fast enough. But he will certainly keep trying this the most, so maybe with sheer attempts he'll get it.
10K no results yet, nobody ever wants a time trial just events fast enough to qualify for the World events, so it might be hard to get a good attempt.
I think Jakob could do the HM though, he's got enough speed and I don't think is physique would be too disadvantageous there. But he's probably like 5 years away from trying this.
Marathon for sure is the hardest with how often it's attempted by the usual culprit African countries and their slew of runners just 2-3 minutes off of WR. Plus he's never gotten anywhere close to that distance in any race. He might be too tall as well.
He is not far away at all for 3000m and his 2-mile WR converts to 7:19. I consider it a done deal and would prefer he focuses on the 1500m and 5000m. I’m not particularly interested in what he can do in the Steeple.
7:51 in the steeple is easy for him. That leaves like 32sec margin in addition to his 3000 flat ability while the best only loose around 25sec. For a tall guy that has already practised and demonstrated good ability on barriers, it should be easy. Only thing that could prevent it from getting it is Girma possibly lowering his WR by several seconds.

No 7:51 is not easy for Jakob. Not at all. Not for anyone. You lose credibility with those kind of comments
the steeple has never been run by an athlete of the caliber of El gerrouj/Jakob/Komen/Bekele etc The WR is quite soft relatively to other distances. Girma, a 7:23 guy "only", broke the WR easily with questionnable technique and uneven pacing.

7:51 is easy for Jakob.
You should just stop here. You appear clueless. Shaheen/Cherono was a 12:48 runner and Henry Rono was one of the best runners in history. Jakob might be able to run 7:55. Maybe.
