The thing that's scary about Jakob he's 22 and he doesn't do the intensity that Nuguse (24) and Kerr (25) do.

The longer the distance, the more Jakob's specific style of training (double thresholds) is beneficial in the speed endurance spectrum.

Jakob, Kerr, and Nuguse are all well trained with a good mix of threshold and intensity

I’m not sure where to even begin here. If you look at the OAC training, the intensity in the fall and between indoors and outdoors is similar, if not lower, than Jakob’s. OAC does a three workout rotating. Threshold, fartlek, 200s and hills. So they’re doing the 200s and hills every other week. Jakob does 20 x 200m hills every week. That 3:56 mile at altitude was essentially a time trial. It’s not like they do workouts like that all the time. They don’t.
We know very little about Jakob’s training once the track season hits. Jakob could be doing plenty of intense sessions in the summer. We don’t know.

Kerr and Nuguse run much lower mileage than Jakob. You could argue that Kerr and Nuguse are better off doing the lower volume. If you listen to interviews with Ritz and Danny Mackey, you’ll hear that Nuguse and especially Kerr really aren’t pushing that hard in training at all. They do faster reps but why do you think that doing fewer faster reps is bad?

Nuguse ran 7:28 indoors practically solo. I would have loved to see him in the 3,000m at Pre. Listen to the Ritz interview after Nuguse’s 3:43. Ritz told Nuguse if he didn’t run 3:45 or faster that Nuguse would have to do the 5,000 next year. Ritz has seen Nuguse in practice every day. There’s a reason he wants Nuguse to move up.

Saying that, history shows that Jakob we still haven't seen Jakob's ceiling. Distance runners tend to peak physically around 26 so unless he's an outlier, you can expect him to get better over the next few years.

Well what’s interesting is the training situations of all 3 guys. Jakob and Kerr train with far inferior guys/alone. If they’re going close to max effort it’s pushing themselves on. Yared has closer company but he is simply more talented than Mario and from all accounts both guys take pride in not going at each other at all with workouts. So maybe this is why Yared has been so consistent all year and Mario has been a bit more up-and-down. He is probably closer to overtraining/the line than Yared. Both guys obviously did a solid job because Mario still ran well at Oslo, Worlds and the DL Final even if not every race in between was great.

Now philosophically Jakob is different in that Kerr does time-trials and to the well type workouts in lieu of racing at times. Both Jakob and Yared race more and are closer to top fitness earlier in the season. They put their heads down in training too but I don’t really see those stints away from racing as attempts to jump up multiple levels like we see from Kerr when he goes away for 6 weeks before a championship.
