He competes in a niche event, is a league ahead of everyone else, and every time he sets a tiny PB (which happens in many meets) he is celebrated as if he is rewriting what was previously thought impossible.

We have seen this before.
Bubka reportedly cleared 21 feet fairly routinely in practice, but played the "1/8 inch at a time" WR bonus game to maximize his income. Yawn.
Traditional meets aren't suited for how good he is. He has to sit half the event while the "boys" play around. Then comes in and it's only him. Plus, he gets guilt stigma like this OP.
Red Bull needs to have a "Mondo Exhibition". They do it for many of their other sports. A push of humanity.
A real world record run. On his time, his schedule, his venue. A run at 6.40m or 6.50m.

Mondo was truly smart to go compete for Sweden. I guarantee you in Sweden they're not tired of it. He's a hero over there. In Sweden the pole vault WR won't be a blurb on page 5 in the sports news section after news about NFL training camp.
You had me at “niche event”…had me thinking you are a tool who doesn’t care about the sport or any measure of excellence, that is.
Let me guess, you wish Mondo would move up to the 800m? Typical letsrunner. People like the OP are part the reason we ARE a niche sport. They can’t be bothered to be educated about and appreciate the various disciplines due to being self-absorbed like a whiney teenager.

I would like to see this. How much higher do pole vault experts think he could realistically go under this kind of setup? 6.40+ sounds like a stretch, but I don't actually know anything about the event
I, too, also hate success and would rather see mediocrity.
Look, the OP is right, we all know Mondo can jump at least 6.40, and has probably done so many times in practice. These 1cm world records feel a little fake. We just want to see his actual limits.

6.40? I doubt he's done that many times if at all in practice. That's a big step up from the current WR. Plus, much like running PBs, I doubt he's even going full-out to that extent in training. He's probably more focused on technique in shorter run ups.
Novice question but I am curious is there a limit to what size the pole is? The thing about this event that gets me is that it is largely dependent on the size pole that you use correct? Much like ppl complain about super shoes, but theirs a limit on the stack height etc… mondo or the next guy can essentially use as big a Pole as they can handle(pause) to jump heights no one else can. Isn’t this unfair if there isn’t a limit on the pole.
what op really means is that he just wants to see his true potential instead of maximizing his BAG by taking just a cm or two every time.
Today it was a first clearance WR; didn't even try to go higher, and he skipped most of the lower heights (so maybe he was tired, but that seems a little less likely than if he had done all or most of the lower heights).
I've often harped on the same issue as the OP, but it is what it is.
Mondo has attempted the world record in (almost) every Diamond League he's been in this year plus the World Champs, and he's failed every time until now. It's not like he's breaking the record every week. It took him the whole season to get here.
