What makes you think the people of a mid-size city want a big stadium and a crapload of hotels?

Next time you're there, venture away from Philville and see the real city, ask the people if they know or care about you and your hotel needs. If they ever wanted some crazy billionaire to go on a building spree.

Maybe it is an idea with merit, but does it matter that Chicago is known as “the Windy City” (from the famous poem)? Maybe it would require a semi-enclosed stadium?

It’s the Windy City because it used to have fickle politicians whose ideas would change with the wind, i.e. follow public opinion or advocate for whatever the masses wanted during a given campaign to curry votes. The phrase has nothing to do with the city actually being windy.

Nike needs to have less influence on track and field, not more influence.

Look at the other sports in the world like football and baseball in soccer. None of them have one sponsor with so much power.

Do you think if the Buffalo bills needed more hotels near their stadium, which isn't a suburb after all, you'd ask for one clothing sponsor to build them?

A better option would be to build a comparable facility in another more populous, easier to get to, with already established tourist infrastructure, and non-podunk town.

This is one of the busiest weekends for travel across the country. Difficult to find any available hotel last minute. Hotel prices probably averaging at least double or even triple what they would usually be on a friday/Saturday. The whole industry is whack.

There are plenty of big chain hotels and nice hotels in Eugene/Springfield. Don’t put your lack of planning on the city. The hotel per capita ratio in the area is probably higher than most places in the country (have no idea how you’d measure this). Should’ve checked all the hotels at the gateway mall area. Or the new hotel they built right across I-5 from the stadium. Or the new hotel they built right downtown above the Nike store. Or the large la Quinta right next to Alton Baker park.

Chicago is known as the Windy City, not because the wind is generally stronger than most other cities, but rather as a reference to its blustering politicians….
