See clip. For those without instagram he basically says “If you’re going to be better than everyone else you need to act like you’re better than everyone else”

Honestly I think if he won every race he wouldn’t be as vocally arrogant as he is. Obviously still internally. But I think his insecurity after losing the few times that he has since Tokyo (DL final in 2021, Wightman, Kerr) amplifies his need to vocally assert he is the best.

Exactly. If he won all the time it would go without saying that he is the best, but he knows it doesn’t go without saying. He is also a 22 year old, although I think he turns 23 next week, but he is still a young guy who probably feels the need to boast occasionally, and of course he does often back it up.

It’s not a terrible take. That’s his personal way of thinking so is completely accurate.
your logic makes no sense.
i'm not saying it's not his personal way of thinking. i'm saying his personal way of thinking is a bad take.
just because Jakob believes in a certain idea doesn't legitimize its validity or accuracy.
I agree that it’s a terrible take by him. He doesn’t need to talk that way. More just let his actions/performances speak the words. That said he is still young and will no doubt mellow as he matures and gets more experience.

So far he's been able to walk the walk,as well as talk the talk.I dont see him as being arrogant, just socially awkward, and painfully honest, and direct. That being said,i dont see him being around a long time, because all that training as an adult, when still a child is sooner or later gonna come back to bite him. He's been healthy-till now.

I don't think it's anything deeper than he's very good and that's just who he is. It's not unusual for very good athletes to be arrogant, it's just that some have more charm than others so they're more likeable. Jakob is more like a villain type, like Ivan Drago, Novak Djokovic, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Chris Froome. But he's no more arrogant than Bolt, Muhammad Ali, Warholm, or Leo Messi. Those guys just have more charm and charisma so their arrogance comes off better

I don’t think your arm chair psychologically fits the target -this time. -I don’t think Jakob has an insecurity problem, and I even think he compensates his “arrogance” with real humility and self criticism in between…And a lot of humour!
Jakob got beaten in indoor Worlds and twice in (this years and last years) Worlds. -I think that made him plssed, but not insecure, because he knows, as we do, that he was obviously sick.
The loss against Wightman is quite another thing. In theory that may have made him insecure, because he lost on a good day. But I really think he believes he could have won with a better tactic (faster third lap). So do I myself believe he could have won? -Sure, but he could also have hit a wall (with that kind of different strategy), and finished fourth or fifth. -True or not; this is history, and Jakob is a far better 1500m runner now…

Yeah precicely this. I have no idea why people are so scared of a littlebit attitude. You don’t get Ronaldo, Jordan, Ali, Bolt etc sitting around and saying "uh I hope to do my best and that might take me to a top 10, that would make me really happy!".
Everyone expects him to win every race he enters. People ridicule him for taking two world championship silver medals at 22, which is an extreme track record. Why sit there and lie and say that his goal is just to have a good race? How boring would the sport be if the greatest we have seen in a long time isn’t allowed to say that he wants to win.
Isnt it a fact that the best strategy for Nuguse is to sit at Jakobs back? Then what is the problem? Not every culture is all about pretending to be modest, and as we have seen time and time again, great athletes doesn't bother with b!llsh!t like that.
"When I fight someone, I want to break his will. I want to take his manhood. I want to rip out his heart and show it to him." - Tyson
If you want to hear about someone turning their other cheek go to church. I'll rather watch someone pursuing greatness. Dont think its modesty that keeps the others runners from saying they want to win. It is a lack of confidence in their ability to do so, and a lack of guts to be open about it.

That Tyson quote is a good example. It's arrogant and not in the slightest bit charming. He just sounds nasty. But Ali used to say similar things, he just had more style and charm. Jakob is closer to Tyson: when he talks, he sounds abrasive and a little disrespectful. All sports needs heels as well as faces
It’s more that he is from a different country and knows other languages. He doesn’t really seem arrogant at all and I never thought that until all the internet comments
