no one is entitled to full-time paid sponsorship. If she was like Syd (Olympic Champion with an interesting personality) she would make money. She isn't. Not even close.
Is it any surprise that the press would focus its efforts on athletes with established viewership? It’s all a business. I like letsrun’s coverage of meaningful stories within the sport because it’s for running nerds, but the general public dgaf about Arkansas’ fourth runner just really have a day out there.
Meh whatever. As long as they don't disrespect the pro runners, I don't really care. These influencers know that they can never be as good as the pros so they are just trying to do as much as they can for a living. Maybe these pros can learn some lessons from them on how to promote the sport and their sponsors.
The world is strange. Think about all the brilliant men and women with m.a. economics, m.s. economics, PhD economics, m.s. finance, PhD finance, but Suze Orman is worth over $75 million. It's not just running. What can you do?
I agree with her. That said, I believe that intelligence is about how well you exploit your environment for your benefit (while being reasonably moral, supporting family, and not breaking laws etc).
Sinead Diver is leading a very hard life and that's her choice. If one of those 3 elements wernt present, I'd admire her cleverness and abilities more, but a full time professional job, 2 kids and an elite running career are stressful as hell. Something has to give after a certain point whether it's healthy whatever. And if she's only achieved international running success in her forties and not pursued her own talent earlier, its possible that she tends to listen too much to people telling her what she can't do, rather than standing up.to herself. I don't think she's a particularly good role model either.
None of that detracts from her outstanding achievements.
This comparison could not be more opposite from the truth... Sydney as an interesting personality?? She never races, lives a pretty private life, and when she does do interviews it's generic "all the glory to God" stuff.
On the other hand, HAVE YOU SEEN Sinead Diver's meme page? Best/most creative running humor by a longshot

agree about the Sydney stuff but the meme page isn't Sinead's, that parts a joke, it's run by a hobbyjogger from Adelaide i think, he was on the ftk podcast once if you wanna listen
This woman is a bad-ass. Legit job in IT, married mom of two. Australiian record holder at age 46 and yet she hardly gets any press.

Earning her stripes with routine 4:00 a.m. alarms to squeeze in training before work and family commitments, Diver's remarkable journey to a top-10 finish at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 has been largely lost in translation. "Ultimately, I think this is as a result of the broader issue in athletics - that there is a real disconnect between what's perceived as media-worthy and what's actually interesting and motivating for most runners," Diver said. "Personally, I have no interest in seeing influencers or motivational speakers promoting running events or sporting brands. I want to see the real athletes being featured. Those who are out there on the road and the track achieving the performances. I want to hear their stories, learn about their experiences." She continued: "Imagine if, in the lead up to the Women's World Cup this year, influencers were being featured instead of the actual Matildas (the Australian national soccer team players). How ridiculous would that be! Unfortunately, that approach is very prevalent in promoting athletics."
She’s another who doesn’t understand that professional athletics is entertainment, and her skinny little ass running at 530 pace isn’t particularly entertaining.

This. She misses the forest for the trees and so does Rojo. If you show value in the space/market, you can command reward. Also, the Aussie women’s soccer team has its own media/promotion people to ensure the right stories are promoted to media outlets and on SM. In running, Diver is an independent contractor freelancer, that’s the essential structure of the sport, and as such she’s responsible for wearing all hats for a professional sports entertainment entity. If she doesn’t have time to promote herself better, that’s not the media’s fault. The media delivers what they discern the public wants to consume and, frankly, a skinny lady running along miles behind the winners and barely if ever on camera at the biggest races just isn’t broadly compelling. Enjoy the sport for what you can get out of it, but the world doesn’t owe you a living via attention and sponsorship. People who understand better and can hustle better will gladly take your lunch.
We’ll put. The general public can’t name any top five golfer on the LPGA Tour but many know who Paige Spiranac is. She’s a good golfer but it’s not her ability to swing the sticks that sells.
