It appears they went with Sinclaire Johnson and Cory Ann McGee instead. That's seems deliberate to not choose the US champ and send the 3rd and 4th place finishers at USAs instead. Mu was 2nd and is apparently running the 800 so that seems like a huge slap in the face to Hiltz to go 4 deep ignoring #1.

I made a mental note to use their preferred pronoun and I still messed it up. I can't imagine how hard it is for the broadcasters to constantly be thinking about every word when talking about they and I obviously have no proof of this, but wouldn't doubt that this has something to do with they not being selected. When you have too many rules about what people can and cannot call you, they may just decide not to call you.

Sinclaire Johnson just ran 3:59 low last week, has a 3:58 PB that she ran at last year’s Pre Classic, and is an Oregon-based Nike athlete.
Cory McGee has 12 DL points compared to 8 for Hiltz, and that’s probably the sole differentiator here. She’s also a 2023 Worlds finalist which Hiltz is not, though semifinal draws have something to do with that.
I'm not a huge fan of Nikki, but I do feel bad about this situation. It feels like she had one of her better seasons in a while this year, and it would be great if she had the opportunity to race in Eugene.
But, alas, none of the US women will end up in the top 5 anyway, so why care?

I have been highly critical of Hiltz on these boards. But this is becoming like Tuohy where every time Hiltz breathes or moves, there is a 30 page board about it.

You don't think it's significant that they were overlooked? They clearly stated that they wanted to run, they had a great season, set an American record and regardless of not making the final at worlds due to bad luck and a ridiculous heat draw, they were the fastest of the Americans and the reigning US champion. I think this is significant and would love to know what the criteria was for selection.
If anyone was shunned, it was Addy Wiley. She is the fastest 800/1500 American of all time and should have gotten an invitation in one or both events. She is the future of the sport.
