OK we got it you can do something. Literally who cares. Stop posting these things. Neither one is impressive.
If you are talking about young adults, if they are reasonably active, training to break 7 minutes in the mile is probably easier for the majority, but it would be depend very much on their build. As a former competitive runner who got into weight lifting, when I was 24 I could still break 5 minutes in the mile, while bench pressing in the 290lb range. It was much harder to bench press 250 than to break 7 in the mile, but for a stocky person, the opposite would likely be true. As for the percentage who can do both, I would say the percentage who can do either in the general public would be relatively small.
At age 20, 7 min mile is easier than 250 bench. As they get older and gain weight, it becomes harder for them. Also, young men in their 20s and 30s are more likely to lift weight than training for middle distance running.
So the number of men who could bench 250 eventually exceeds the number of men who could run 7 min mile.
Depends on how short your arms are. If you have T-Rex arms bench is easy. You only have to move the bar a couple inches.
Dumb question - it's like asking what percentage of people can chew gum & fart at the same time? 🤣
In my 20s and 30s I weighed 140, could run 5:15 mile, and put up 250 once. Now I'm old.
What by about sub 4, plus 250?
I’ve done the Falcon double.
6 year old can a run a 7 minute mile so that’s easier.
Greg could.
Can do reps with a mere 250, can't run a mile. Maybe walk, run, walk....
One of the scariest moments of my life was when my coach told be I had to run a 4x4 leg, will never forget that. Why would anyone run a 400m?
I can’t actually do either at the moment. I’m hoping for sun 7 and 250+ by end of year.
my main question was what % of adults can do both. I’d say less than 0.1% of people.
I thought you were in the military back in the day. You sound like a coward if a 400m scared you.
I believe a lot more can do the seven minutes, with some training, than the 250 bench which is a pretty good number for a Natty.
IMO a 5 min mile and a 250 natty bench would be pretty equivalent.
It would be mostly the decathlete types that could do this. From what I’ve seen, most of your four minute miler types can barely bench their own body weight which is typically 150 or less..
Yep, spent 4 years in the Navy. Also spent 4 years running the 100 and 200 and long jumping, footballer. Ah.....15 years playing city league flag football, was a Goshen Bomber.
Yep, big time coward when it comes to the 400m. Total wimp, scared to death.
Did you have to run as a fitness criteria for the Navy?
She’s not an adult, but my 12 year old sister achieved both of those last week.
“Warmup done” she said.
We we know that is not true.
7 minute mile quite a bit easier than 250. Not sure about a sub 5 minute mile being the equivalent of 250 (especially for an older dude). But maybe sub 5:30 and 250.
