.@NYRR announced its 2023 New York City Marathon women's elite field 🗽

Wow thats an all-time great field. Most curious to see how Gidey does in round 2 at the Marathon, especially with no pacers and over hills. NYC really shelled out some cash this year on the Women's side, this looks more like a London caliber start list.
Yehualaw is a bit of a worry. She was a mess for the last 5k of the Budapest marathon. She dug herself into an almighty hole. I'll back Obiri for the win again. She knows the course, proved herself on the hills in Boston, and is a top talent. I worry for Gidey. She has ran herself into the ground in Valencia (crawled home) and at World XC. I think she'll underestimate the challenge of NY and go out way too hard
I think some of the Ethiopians really struggle in the heat. Addis doesn’t get hot due to its altitude so few of them do heat prep. New York in November will be cool so not a worry. Gidey is attempting to take back her 5000m WR this weekend in Berlin. And will then focus on marathon training which only gives her 2 months. I know for a fact she runs hills in training and is very mentally strong. However the marathon is a different beast and she is still new to it. She will only get better
Really impressive. Surprising to me that Berlin didn’t get a couple of these names, but I suppose Chicago and Berlin don’t care too much about depth typically.

Berlin almost seems to have given up this year, or maybe Kipchoge cost too much on his own. The only women signed up so far are Tigest Assefa and Sheila Chekpkirui, not a stellar lineup. While Berlin is a fast course, there should be some question over its status as a WMM given the poor quality of its field over the last few years
Yehualaw, Gotytom, and Salpeter backing up from last Saturday. How many weeks will that be and does that make a difference to their chances.

Gidey did slow in Valencia but still was sub 2.17 with the 5k between 35 and 40 in 17.05. Of course did have the pacers stay with her while the winner cleared out all alone
My choice for the win, so far, is Hellen Obiri. I'm worried about what Gidey can do in a tough course like NYC. Not sure Salpeter and Yehualaw could perform as top condition after such a hot marathon and only 3 months. I hope Jepchirchir gets back to her top level from 2020-2021. And also would be nice to see if Lokedi can be on the podium after winning last year...

For yehualaw, especially after almost collapsing over the line.
