She never looked like she wanted to be there. I thought she took it out a bit too fast and then of course she left lane wise open to get passed on the inside at the end. It will be interesting to see what happens to her after this race. Hopefully it motivates her.

she stayed on outside of lane 1 to make moraa run wider around the turn, which was smart
should've gone back to inside of lane 1 to block hodge, but she could prob tell she didn't have the gas to hold off moraa anyway and was just thinking about the win, not trying to get 2nd so much
“Lane 2 Mu” runs the race with a wide open gap from the rail and gets passed on the outside by Moraa, then by Hodgkinson on the inside. Devastating!
I don't think she is devastated at all. The only way she would be actually devastated is if she truly cared and really wanted to win the race.
I think this was actually a super impressive medal - it's hard to go to a worlds that you don't want to be at (and were probably forced to by your sponsor) and walk away with some hardware.
Really sad to see Athing Mu running like that, a shadow of her former self. Hope she finds joy again in her life whatever that may be. Keely well she's consistent but needed to take the race by the scruff of the neck, honestly don't think she truly believed. Mary always looked confident a great racer.
I don't understand how an athlete at this level can routinely make this mistake.
I've wondered that, too. I wonder if sometime in her past back in high school, she clipped the inside rail and has a subconscious fear of getting close to it. That rail can put you down painfully.
On another thread, I posted that Kersee should put cones all the way around the track about 6" inside the lane two white line and have Mu do her intervals in lane 1. The cones would "push" her to the middle of lane 1.
I did this for a while when I was stepping on the line in my 400m practices to force myself to stay away from the inside line.

Sounds like a pretty stupid way to race, wavering from lane to lane to block or edge other runners.
Bad move leaving Texas, LA has too many distractions and Kersee's philosophy of not racing does not work for everyone ...she still ran a great time but lack of races really hurt her.

No matter where you are in the lane, someone has to run wider than you if they pass on your outside.
Might as well stay on the rail so you are running the shortest distance you can while others are on the rail behind you.
logically what you say makes sense, but can you find any races where this actually happens? the leader off the last turn is almost never right on the rail and they also essentially never stay right on the rail all the way to the finish if anybody is near.

I recall seeing a video of her running an 800 as a freshman in hs and she ran wide then too
