He’s embarrassed about his lazy eye.
Because he wants to?
As long as they are comfortable on his head, I can see the benefit of keeping you focused on only your immediate surroundings. Like blinders on a race horse. And the sun could be irritating if it is bright out.
Ask Ato Boldon.
Most likely sponsorship. They pay him to do so.
When Oakley was a big thing they paid many track athletes to wear them in competition. Many wore them even at night.
They're paying him money
To earn money and keep that sponsor happy.
Does anyone know if he trains in them? Because in addition to the other explanations mentioned, another may be that if he trains in them regularly, it just feels weird running without. After I started doing most of my training wearing a hat and sunglasses, their absence in runs where I didn't wear them became distracting. And if I was a serious competitor, I wouldn't want minor things like that potentially bothering me during a race.
Pollen.
idk, why does Murphy wear one arm sleeve?
‘I was a bit apprehensive initially [about racing in sunglasses] ... but it makes me very laser focused, because nobody can see my eyes, especially in the [pre-race] call-room,’ he told The Telegraph. ‘It’s fantastic. Someone was [once] swearing at me, “Are you looking at me?” and I was like, “I’m not sure, mate, you don’t know where my eyes are looking”. It’s a very intimidating thing for people. So it’s a nice little thing up my sleeve. I’ve got the gold ones for the final, so they will be looking cool.’
He should embrace it like Joe Klecker
Protection from the wind burn while smoking guys on the track!
I always laugh when distance runner think they are being bada$$ or intimidating. Nah bro, I don't believe your story for a minute.
Congrats on the W but no one was swearing at you.
Because the future's so bright?
Don't be afraid of the guy in shades, oh no
It can't escape you
'Cause you got it made with the guy in shades, oh no
Sooo....no-one can see your eyes (and of course all the competition are totally trying to see your eyes) so you can focus better. Riiiiight. No matter the optics quality, shades do compromise vision to an extent, which can be critical in the race, so they are actually a disadvantage. Fine if your eyes are unusually sensitive, but most peoples aren't.
The answer is, of course, $$$.
Why are some female sprinters wearing one full leg sleeve? Saw it on Richardson and Yemi Mary John
