We spoke to Hassan after her 1500 prelim at the 2023 Wordls in Budapest and she admitted she's not in peak form as she has to balance competing here with get...
The marathon runner also ran at quick tempo pace in her 5k heat. She was already pushing the pace to take the sting out of any kick that the miler moving up might have. The miler moving up needlessly took the bait, following the marathoner all the way, and even tried to pass the marathoner at the end to win the heat.
If you are a distance runner you have to love thi, and will be rooting for the fast marathoner/distance runner who likes to run in the 5k final.
She has lost 2 winnable races. She should focus on recovery and the race at hand. If she is still fresh next week, continue hitting the workouts. My money is on another loss at 5k maybe without a medal since she will likely be fried.

The 1500 was winnable? It was winnable for Kipyegon, but probably no other woman in history.

I agree, though I do think she should have two silvers now instead of one bronze. The Tokyo drift cost her silver in the 10k and she left it too late today.
We all know she had silver locked up if it wasn’t for the fall. To triple medals consistently to me is even a bigger achievement than doubling gold. I love that she’s going for the triples makes it so much more interesting. she’s a nut

Unfortunately, that tempo run did nothing to take the kick out of the distance runner who beat her twice already this year.
She's not in Budapest for gold medals (though that would obviously be a nice bonus), she's primarily a marathon runner now and in Budapest for the PR value of three medals period.
Got a lot of good attention and money for the three Olympic medals in Tokyo. Now she's trying to repeat to write history and be the first runner (male of female) to have medaled at the 1500, 5000 and 10000 at BOTH the Olympics and a World Championship.
Or maybe she's just walking the tightrope over insanity? ;-)
