She did what she could, stayed in the pack, moved up smartly to be in contention, but she just does not have the wheels to hang with the east africans over the last lap.

Of course she is going to have less energy on the last lap when the Africans are SHOVING her.

She would speed up, get shoved and slow down, then have to speed up again. That has a massive energy cost.

Now that she has the endurance to be there at the bell lap, she just needs a year to work on her speed.

This was a great run by Alicia! Honestly probably her possible best result (she would’ve been 6th had Hassan not fallen)

However, the truth is she’s just not on the level of the medals. Her 30:03 PR is a MINUTE slower than Hassan and Gidey. I assume Tsegay can run that fast as well.

They are gonna rock her in a slow race and a fast race this year.

She’s only 25 so hopefully in the next couple years she’ll make that jump! I’m rooting for her!

5th was pretty much the best result she could hope for. Ethiopia is where Kenya was 5 years ago for testing.

Are you stupid? She’s fifth and nobody cares after third place.

She didn't have to be "targeted" as the Africans would have shoved anyone that tried to pass. Monson was the only one trying to pass and thus got the majority of the pushing done against her.

Being the victim of the pushing is 100x more tiring than doing the pushing.mThey were in lane 1 pushing her into lane 3. They were pushing an accelerating runner to slow her down and KILLED her momentum.

Regardless, she'll probably get upgraded to a medal after drug testing. Ethiopia is the most doped up country on the planet right now

She was also impeded by a lapped runner. It drives me crazy when lapped runners don’t make room in such situations: either hug the rail or, better yet, go out into the border area between lanes 2 and 3. I don’t think she would have medaled, but maddeing.
