If she had held on to win she would have broken the WR. So she just missed out on $45k in earnings by falling so close to the finish. In reality, she might win the 400m Hurdles so that number could have been $115k. Man that sux.

Think how bad her three teammates feel, none of them are going to be in line for big prize money elsewhere in the meet.

It’s not strictly Femke’s fault though. If someone else had simply run 1 second faster then maybe she would have finished in 1st
It's because they're used to either riding bicycles everywhere or taking boats down canals. They're genetically suited for cycling or rowing.
In all seriousness, I think Bol wasn't expecting to get passed and maybe thought about leaning, but botched it. It looks like Sifan was throwing bows to try to hold the lead and wound up getting some karma thrown back her way.
They both put too much attention on their opponents and lost concentration. Suddenly the finish line wasn't coming fast enough but their opponents were and they panicked.
Good take. I haven't seen anything like this before.
Me neither! Each was being run down and just couldn’t seem to get their legs to move as fast as their upper body was going - and down they went. Both were heavily favored women from the same small country in totally different events. I was astonished the first time it happened, but then to see it again on the same day was just one of those things that is hard to imagine could ever happen again.

Definitely a contender for GOAT coincidence in track and field. The fact that two Finnish guys named Olavi Salsola and Olavi Salonen finished in a tie to both lower the 1500 WR to 3:40.2 in 1957 is a good one too.

Hassan stabbed her in the knee with her spikes. You can see the blood coming from her knee. She should be banned and should have been banned years ago for systemic doping.
Yes I couldn't believe Hassan falling, and then Bol too. Both great runners and competitors but it didn't go their way yesterday. Both will have wins in the future.
