Just spoke to USATF communications chief Aarti Parekh and she confirmed that Athing Mu is in Budapest. I asked her if that meant Mu is running, and she told me that while she could not confirm that 100%, she has seen nothing to indicate that Mu will not be competing.
Remember that Bobby Kersee told the LA Times that Mu would either be getting on a plane to Budapest or a plane to vacation. My guess: she's running the 800 at Worlds.

If she’s there and if she competes it’s only if Kersee thinks she’s in a good enough shape to contend for the win. Trying not to get my hopes up but I’m excited for the final, it would be a shame to not get to see Mu vs. Hodgkinson va Moraa.
I'll bet my left nut that she no shows the final.

It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened. Last year Sydney started her vacation at the Monaco Diamond League meet.
Back when the LA Grand Prix was first announced Bobby K spoke about trying to help build the sport in the USA. By his actions like games like this running - not running - running - we will see - it seems he is doing all he can to drive fans away from the sport and especially being fans of his athletes

Athing is a T&F super-star and should get coverage regardless of nationality.
Plenty of coverage here on non-American T&F superstars as well, especially distance runners.
and for all the haters who think she's not going to make the finals? I won't say that's not possible, but seems unlikely. She ran 1:58 and made it look easy in the one 800m she ran this year, and she's likely in much better form now than a couple months ago since she showed up at Worlds. I'm sure she'll move to the front of the heat and control the pace like she always does and then easily cruise into the finals.
Will she win gold? I wouldn't bet against it. If she doesn't win gold it will be because there are several other fast and talented women that she is competing against, not because of some failure by her... the concept that winning Silver and Bronze is a failure is nonsense and the exact logic that is pushing these athletes not to compete in the first place.

She ran the NYC Gran Prix in June, winning in 1:58.73.
