Drew Bosley is one of the few NAU runners who posts on Strava daily. really interesting to follow. guy is a workhorse.

I know its non uncommon but i still feel like i'ts such a bizarre thing to be a rule. Trade secrets in 2023?

Just looking at the top 10 in mens xc last year, at least half of them have public profiles where they regularly post all their workouts. Doesn't seem to be holding them back letting everyone know all their "secrets"

I don't doubt this, but it's funny that anyone would think they have a monopoly on the right way to train and that there is a need to keep this information locked up.

I find it hilarious that some coaches think their workouts are so much better than other coaches' so they ban their athletes from posting on Strava.

Arguably the two best US coaches right now have athletes that post everything (Ritz - almost everyone has strava, and Mike Smith - Drew Bosley).

Probably for the best since how much road mileage Natalie Cook runs has been a way too over analyzed/borderline problematic topic since she was in high school. And according to her parents, social media has not been ideal for Natalie's mental health over the years. So hopefully this at least frees her from any potential stress of needing to "report in" all the time and let others track her and compare herself to others. Hopefully we still get the occasional workout report in interviews and articles.

I don’t think she’s stressed over Strava. She said in the comments that she’s sad and loves Strava. It’s not related to mental health, maybe it will help her with comparison, but that is definitely not her coach’s motive.

I imagine a lot of it is for safety reasons. Many runners, especially the females, have a lot of admirers - social media only heightens that. and I'm sure they don't feel comfortable announcing where they run every morning. especially because a lot of trails are secluded.

No I dont think that was the primary motive. My point was it may end up helping her no matter what the official reason for it especially considering some of the issues shes had with how social media has effected her in the past. Im not at all surprised she didnt want to give it up.

I know people on teams where they all had to stop because the team's runs were being used by stalkers to track someone who might not even have Strava. There are a lot of creepy people out there and while pros can generally do what they want, some college teams have rules around social media for team safety. Ex. Lauren McCluskey
