Faith Kipyegon is now a three-time world record holder after breaking records in the 1500m, 5000m, and one-mile distances. As she heads to Budapest, she has the opportunity to secure an unprecedented season of successes if sh...
1500 is just about the viable lower limit, calluses or not. Faster speeds tear skin off no matter what, on a modern synthetic track. It's like sandpaper. Zola Budd was about the only elite who ever managed to do it, and probably because she trained that way from the start.
An athlete who has always ran track in shoes will get a nasty surprise if they try to go without
Agreed, I reckon Faith could absolutely do this barefoot. The race distance is short enough that any discomfort would only really be an issue after the race is done, adrenaline would dull any soreness. Folk lose shoes all the time during races and finish without any issue- didn't Kipruto win the steeple diamond league trophy with only one shoe on?
I read about barefoot in the past, but I don't think it's the cause of her ability to run so fast today. More like genetics, the food, the air and the altitude. Yeah, I would think altitude and clean air are more important...
She took quite a while to become this good though....not sure where she was when she was younger or maybe I wasn't following that closely....
Femke, 400h. She could lose two seconds and still win.
FWIW, I think it would be harder for throwers to win without shoes than runners due to the more persistent technical component of throwing. Traction, flatness and heavier weight of shoe, etc.
Corey Bellemore dominated the men's championship race at the 2023 Beer Mile World Classic while running the entire race missing a shoe. Chris Robertson (USA)...
nah. He even said that when he was considering signing with Puma that as long as they could make a good spike he was super excited to join the brand that Usain Bolt ran under.
could he jump 19’ without spikes. I don’t know. Maybe, but you need to be ready to jump 6m plus to win these meets nowadays.
and why exclude throwing events? A barefoot Ryan Crouser is not beating a shod Kovacs
I don’t think faith is wining the 1500 without spikes assuming she has to run the rounds barefoot and not just the final.
my vote goes Hassan in the 10,000. Final only and won’t have to contest with faith. I don’t really now how realistic that is though.
