LRC note: The thread title and first post are misleading in our eyes. Hassan is triple entered at Worlds but it's believed she will only contest 2 events at Worlds.
The Dutch distance superstar will take on three events (1,500m, 5,000m, and 10,000m) in nine days, just five weeks before she races the Chicago Marathon
She has 0% change of winning the 1500 or 5000, at least she only has to run 1 heat before the 10k final.
I think that's probably right but keep in mind that Kipyegon is doubling and will have the 1500 in her legs when running the 5000. In any case I think the bigger threat to Kipyegon is Tsegay in both the 1500 and 5000. Her only legit chance at gold is maybe the 10000 but I think Gidey has the edge there.
Hassan will have mental edge over her competitors when they are trying to kick against her in the final 100 and remember she is tripling and still right up there, while they rested for this one event and can't even shake her off.
That said, she will probably have to settle for just a medal in each event, maybe even a dismal bronze in one of them. I do expect at least one gold.
Her only chance at gold is in the 10k, where she'll now have to run a heat of the 1500 earlier in the day. The triple took her a year to recover from last time, but she's gonna run a marathon a month later? Look, Hassan is an athlete who draws motivation from setting these insane challenges for herself, but this still makes no sense.

I am a devoted fan of Hassan, but attempting this triple again and then running Chicago six weeks later makes little sense. I’d much prefer her to simply choose a single event in Budapest and focus on it and truly try for gold, preserving herself enough in the process to actually try and win Chicago. The way it is right now she’s setting herself to come away with nothing (maybe the attempt at the 10 in Budapest wont be too derailed by running a 1500 heat before, but still). I’ve floated this idea before, but I think trying these crazy triples followed by a marathon major reduces the pressure on her to optimally perform in any one event. The pressure and stakes would be higher if she was to say “I’m going all in on the 5000 where I’m not favored and where with true focus I think I can beat Kipyegon and Tsegay.” Then she can do the same in Chicago.
She’s absolutely crazy for wanting to do this and I love her for it. This is what makes track exciting, seeing athletes being fearless and challenging themselves. I don’t think that she’ll win all races but she has a high chance of medaling in all three. Her highest chance of a gold will be in the 10k although I’m still giving that one to Tsegay who I think will out kick her and Gidey. In the 5k it’ll be between Kipyegon and Tsegay battling for the win with Hassan getting a bronze. In the 1,500 she’ll have to battle it out with the trio of Ethiopian girls for the silver or bronze as I’m a pretty sure Kipyegon will be winning that one and Tsegay is skipping out. This just makes me a lot more excited than I already am for World!

By entering in all 3, does it mean scratching out of the 1500 would end her 5,000 hopes (or vise versa)? I wasn't sure when the Dutch announced the team if she was merely keeping all her options open or was definitely running all 3.

No, it doesn't prove what you think it proves. All it proves is that she claims she will run all 4 races. We don't know if she will actually run all 4 races, or if she will be able run fast in both the 1500 and marathon so close to each other.
I think that the most likely scenario is that she drops one of the four races.

I'm calling triple bronze lol
At this stage of her career, what’s better for her legacy, triple bronze or one more global gold? Seems like the latter. She already did this triple. Time for her to pick an event out of the three (certainly not the 1500) and give yourself the best chance for a gold. Don’t completely destroy yourself going for an impossible triple and then go for the win in Chicago, or at worst 2nd and a new pr. Certainly the 10 is her best chance for gold now, but if she only ran the 5000 while Kipyegon and Tsegay double, she would be highly competitive in the 5000 too. The margin of error for Tsegay and Chebet over Hassan is very slim based on London. If she was sharpening for the last 200 m of the 5000, I have her beating Chebet, beating Tsegay if she has already run the 10, and Kipyegon, well, who knows. Tripling for bronzes (maybe) just doesn’t strike me a a good move, especially if it leaves you wrecked for the fall marathon.

You are right, this one example proves it.
This one athlete (who cut 5s off their 1500m PB aged 25 one year after joining a coach who was subsequently banned) totally proves it...
This seems like a really terrible idea. It was risky in 2021, when she was in better shape than she is now and had more speed. Doing it this year, when she arguably wouldn't even medal on fresh legs in the 5000, seems sorta silly. Running a 1500 heat hours prior to the 10k, which is her only shot at gold, takes away from my excitement - it doesn't add to it. Bummer, won't be shocked if she leaves Budapest with a single Bronze or no medals at all. We shall see
