Shayla Houlihan enters her second season as the UCSB Distance coach after a stellar first year campaign with the Gauchos. Houlihan made an instant impact guiding
Exactly… has coached at two previous UC’s, strong resume, and has had a lot of recent success at UCSB all things considered. Wouldn’t be a bad hire by any means imo
I've been among the most vocal anti-burrito bullshyte excuse on these boards, but taking it out on her sister, who did NO WRONG and has a spotless reputation is just bad. Shayla Houlihan is an excellent coach by all accounts. Her resume speaks for itself.
You defend your family, that's just what you do. If my brother murdered someone in the middle of the street, I'd still mix it up with any fool who insults him. Wouldn't you?
Spotless reputation, high pedigree and experienced. A big loss for UCSB if she leaves. BTW, UCSB pay is just garbage, so I wouldn't be surprised if she leaves.

Nice comparo. I would definitely not falsely claim that he was innocent, and I would also not invite him to my college to talk to the kids about how to succeed in life.

Never knew about this. Is it true or just a rumor?
Would someone please care to detail her successes at Cal, working with the UA pro group, and then at UCSB? The work at UCSB in two years is okay, but nothing that a lot of other coaches aren't doing. Was her time at Cal really all that impressive?

Yes it was, they had multiple national level athletes in the distances and ran at xc nationals… now they are one of the worst teams in the area aside from San Jose State… the track team is doing well under the new-ish director but I hate to see what distance has become!
CAL is now putting ZERO money into the distance program. Under Sandoval most of the money went to XC/Distances. Shayla was not a success with that program.
Someone that brings in a convicted doper to talk to college athletes does not have a spotless reputation.
That she is Shelby's half-sister shouldn't count against her but she absolutely crossed a line bringing Shelby to speak to her team and forcing them to listen.
