Please can you explain. I always thought it lowered it.
Levels will dip with a weekly mileage of 30+
Incidentally research shows that new fathers who who average 30 - 50 miles per week are ~60:40 more likely to have a baby girl than boy.
Running raises but overtraining lowers testosterone levels.
If you can handle high-mileage it's not gonna be a problem but most runners think that being constantly tired is normal instead of identifing this as a sign for overtraining.
The research that has been done shows that high mileage lowers male testosterone by something like 20% (haven't read the research in a long time). But it's not clear that this is a bad thing. For example, high levels of testosterone are linked with prostate and testicular cancers. It may or may not impact fertility, depending on other factors--no enough is known.

If research has been done then you could provide the research, couldn't you?
"The subjects in these studies have typically been distance runners who had been involved with the physical training aspects of their sport for 1 to 15 years. In these studies, testosterone levels of the endurance-trained men were found to be 60-85% of the levels of matched, untrained men."
This is a serious response.
Over a couple of decades of endurance running and marriage I know that testosterone levels are reducd whist training on moderate to high milage.
I know because it's one of the wsays that I can help to keep my marriage content.
Without running, like on holiday, I constantly want to f*** my wife. Now, don't get the wrong impression, she doesn't mind now and then, when the hormones are at favourable levels, but when I cut down the training the testosterone and energy levels rocket and It's all I want to do.
Much better then the status quo that normally rules our happy life:
I train like a bastard and testosterone is suppressed and i'm constantly tired.
She gets a quiet life and i can just about raise an interest when she feels the need for a bit of cock.
Anyway you young men; it's good that testosterone is lowered when you train hard - stops you wanking too much; everybody knows that masturbation adversly effects running performance.
