running is such an insular world. it's all about who is in the know but also about that fit: Holt is a good runner but he doesn't fit with OAC's vibe, it just doesn't work. Same goes for the person suggesting Mike Smith's group. Yeah it's about how fast you run (and how much value you have to a sponsor) but it's also about a vibe. Holt cannot just show up on someone's doorstep in Boulder or Flagstaff and ask to be "in"
not saying that this is a good thing but it's the way things are. as with everything there is more than just merit at play.
