Didn't she run that last year beating Sifan/being .01 out of winning a DL?
Real question is how the heck did she get crushed 2x at USAs in this kind of shape? I guess Cranny's in AR shape since she just ran 4:16, but still.
Males tend to have less endurance and more speed. If you show me a good male college runner and a female pro with the same PR in an event, I’d take him for all events of a shorter distance and her for all longer events
Running the 10 a few days earlier probably didn't help at USAs, but I think the main reason is that she's a time-trialer who needs pace setters to run a fast time.
Monson doesn't have a big kick, so when she runs fast times, it's by grinding out lots of relatively fast laps. And so far, she hasn't shown that that she can hold a fast pace on her own. Her fastest times have all been in races where she used the fast kids as pace-setters. No pace setter, no fast time.
TBH, I'm not sure this describes her 3000 last year in Lausanne. I'd need to watch that again to see.
8:25 is around a 4:29 mile pace. Then her 14:19 is around a 4:34 pace. Great training for today's race and a very gutsy effort !!
or cranny would get dropped in a race that goes along at 14:20 pace
On Strava she mentioned getting Covid and having to recover from that a month or two before USAs. Might not have been as sharp as she could have been at USAs. Seems like she is now fully recovered.
Exactly. Cranny has the speed but in a real time trial type race she’s not gonna be close enough to Monson to kick late and beat her. Monson had to expend too much energy leading at USAs and someone else mentioned Covid the month prior. Not surprised by this result or the USAs results.
She looked so good running that today. Must feel great for Americans to have that tainted Houlihan record scrubbed from the books, and comprehensively
I’ll be the one to say it. Shelby was confirmed to the gills when she set that record and it just got broken. But monson is clean??? Come on
My thoughts exactly.
Shelby was supposedly doped when she ran 14:23, but a 14:19 out of monsoon is clean? Even more so- the 3rd AR for monson this year?
and people speculate that Shelby was doped because she improved from 15:30ish in college to 14:23 in 4-5ish years as a pro, but yet monson can go from similar starting times to 14:19 in only 3 years as a pro, but there’s no speculation?? ?
Monson is just a powerful shuffle runner!

What was your 10k PR?
30:03 is fairly equivalent to low 14:20s

Eisa ran 14:16 off of an 8:41 3k "best".
High 30's.

Sir, with all due respect if you needed around 8:10 to barely break 1430 then your endurance really sucked because if I have an athlete who can runs 810 I'm looking at an athlete who can run close to 14 minutes. I know athletes who cannot break 8:10 who have broken 14 minutes.
I'm guessing you are a 350 810 type of runner.
Yepp. Probably 3:47 - 8:10 - 14:29 - 30:50 or so.
I think it's really easy. Some reporter needs to ask Monson whether she eats pork burritos.
The running public needs to know - does the On group have burritos on their training menu?
Or is it their new super spikes?
My 3k was 8:36 when I ran 14:20. Different skills at different distances
