In this vlog I show all of the fun things I've been doing on my trip to France, but I also talk about the mental health struggles I've been experiencing. It'...
I hope this comment doesn't get removed, but why would any coach willingly coach a head case - and 90% of the time, they're female? It seems like far more stress than it's worth

I don’t fault you for believing that 90% of head cases are female… after all, 90% of those who vocalize are indeed female. After all, they share feelings better. How many dudes just totally flame out and never say out loud that “it was a mental thing” though? Probably s*itloads. I’ve coached both genders and think that the “mental issues” holding athletes back are evenly dispersed tbh.

Why would an aspiring mountain/trail runner pick Ari Klau as their coach. She signed with Normal and hasn’t raced since because Ari Klau has no idea what he’s doing and as a result got Ali injured having her run 17 miles up hill.
Could’ve easily got someone like Sage Canaday or his girfriend to be her coach.
I would strongly advise anyone about to pile on with prejudicial and stigmatizing remarks about Allie's openness about her mental health to stop and look in the mirror for a moment. I'll never cease to be amazed at how astonishingly cruel people can be. Go watch testimonials about eating disorders on YouTube from some of the many people (men and women both suffer from EDs and body dysmorphia) who develop them and then pop off.
She will not have a career in trail running. She is too injury prone to train for/race track, let alone the trails. Additionally, she cannot handle high mileage which is needed for trail running.
Granted nnormal is not a big time company, I don't know why they would invest money in someone who is constantly injured and likely to never be competitive again.

Sure, but keep in mind that some of the people, if not most, who are piling on are mentally ill themselves….
just listened to a podcast where Krissy Gear talks about her struggles with cutting herself. geez, these runners could really use a support group.
+1
Can't believe all the insensitive comments here. Jeez. There are many runners who are so singularly focused, so dedicated, so OCD, such hard workers and so outcome dependent. When things aren't working, you are not progressing and you are dealing with criticism, it's not an easy thing at all. There are only so many times you can here, "suck it up", "don't give up", etc. After awhile it becomes just empty words.
Setbacks, losing, failing - these are all a part of life. But it still stings, let's not kid ourselves. I think back to my massive failures and how miserable I felt during those times. It's a dark reality.
