Shelby has little chance. She will be too old. She will be 32 in Feb 2025 and surely her best 1500m days will be over. She might be able to run 5000m well but not her personal best.

Since I started following the sport, she's the first high profile athlete to get banned and look like she's gonna come back just as good or better. I try to be positive, but I feel like I have to assume she passed tests before while doping, and if she could do it then, then there's no reason she wouldn't be able to do it now or in the future, so it's gonna be pretty hard to root for her.

Of course, if she could do it, that means it's pretty likely everyone's doing it, and I like that even less, so maybe I'll just choose to believe she's clean now along with most other athletes. Worst case scenario, I'll just start doping and call it even.

I'd say it helps more for women than men. I mean even just recovering better between sessions is a massive advantage (for both).

I don't know much about Shelby but is she definitely planning on making a comeback as obviously that's a long time to be out of the sport.

I'll never understand how people can want runners to be as fit as possible and run as fast as possible, but when they take supplements to make them fitter and run faster, they get upset.

As I understand it, not used so much for directly increasing performance but enhancing recovery from incredibly high workloads, muscle breakdown from speedwork, etc.

And specifically to avoid side-effects and other problems with TRT which women obviously would not want.

Once she started going under 15 in the 5000m she probably started realizing her limit and slower recovery.

All this is speculation. If she is actually somehow innocent I am sure it is four years of absolute hell. If guilty, still hard to wake up every day and look in the mirror for four years.

But the point is it's not a lifetime ban but four years.

She'll be 32 in 2025, 5000m ARs may be over but longer is still an option.

However we are going to be talking about a dozen new names by 2025

Imagine being so desperate for someone good to cheer for you resort to "she's the best we've got" as a defence for a banned athlete who blamed a carne asada that was maybe pork belly for a positive test saying through her lawyer that her case was a "slam dunk" then a year later said "yeah it might not have been the burrito I'm not sure."

I mean even if you believe the "everyone dopes" narrative, not everyone who gets caught tries such an obnoxious car crash as a defence.

You guys are nuts if you think 32 is old for her to perform exceptionally well. How old is Jenny Simpson? How long has she fallen off? Not long. Bernard Lagat? Khadevis Robinson? All of these people made Olympic teams after 35.

especially if you believe she isn’t clean, then you gotta expect the effects to also prolong her career. Newsflash: most people that have doped have NOT been caught. You would be very surprised who doped who never got caught. Shelby may not come back and set PRs, but she will be faster than the other Americans. 3:56/3:57 and 14:40 for sure her first year back.

Complete and utter nonsense. Nandrolone has a long history as a ped in distance running. Also, it took 60 tests to catch her between 2018-2020, so the idea that if she passes a test, she is clean is baseless. Think of how many thousands of antidoping tests dirty athletes pass before they are finally caught, if ever. Doping athletes know how to pass tests; they are virtually never caught. In sports like cycling dirty athletes passed hundreds of tests in their careers.

Of course Houlihan will come back just as dirty. They always do.
