Deserves its own thread. National record for Fay, for U-W runner, beating Cragg's 13:03.xx. McGorty gets WC standard, too.

Does Fay have collegiate eligibility left or is he going pro? Listed as a senior on TFRRS, but with Covid that doesn't mean anything.
Side note but Andy Powell has absolutely been crushing it at UW. 3 consecutive 1,500/Mile champs (all different people) + a 13:01 5K runner.
who's the better middle distance coach now? At least 1500m/miler/5K?
Ritz is doing well but yeah impossible to say who is the best - let’s just say both guys are doing impressive things.
yeah Powell did really good with Fay, so good that he ALMOST was first team all american in the 5k. he got 9th at NCAAs with a 14:11.
Fay turns 25 in november.
Makes me wonder what Ky Robinson could have done in this race
He’s graduated and is being coached back in Ireland by old coach feidhlim Kelly now. Not sure if that’s temporary or permanent
He melted in the heat , has nothing to do with Powell

Great for McGorty, now he's not just a clutch championship racer, but fast too. Note also the old school virgin/pre racing schedule of 10k 5k 5k all within 10 days.
On Powell, he's getting these results with college guys, very good ones and some older, but still not seasoned pros.
I heard a while back that he has a NIKE contract waiting for him so hopefully this performance seals that.

Won't ever know about this race . . .
However . . .
Ky is one of the "headliners" in the Sound Running Under Armour Sunset Tour 5k race next Saturday (7/22) at Occidental College in LA . . .

Also there is always the question of what he was peaking for. He's certainly not 'burned out from the long grueling NCAA season'. 13:02 right now makes him a long shot wc contender, at least getting him to final.
Both Waskom and Fay fresh right now for NCAA guys.
Great run by Fay!
All-time best 5000 from a Virginia HS alum?
Great for Ireland that they will have someone in the men's 5000 in Budapest. I wish I could say the same for the UK but it's looking unlikely now.
Powell better than Schumacher? wrote:

Is this collegiate record from Fay?

😂😂😂 Hilarious.
Ugh, Brian Fay's arms are awfully skinny!
But his name is not Koko or Eilish so not a single comment on his physique...

Yomif Kejelcha, similar stick arms. Economical, less weight to carry.
