Standard was 3:34.20 right? weird pacing as well sam ellis went through 1200 but waskom wasnt even behind himreally
Way too many people in the field. If he’d been able to get behind the pacer he would have run 3:33 easily.
Did they require them to run alphabetically? Does he need his mom tell them to give him a good position?
He screwed himself on that one.
Unfortunate to have a near miss but this can only improve his world ranking
Having just run USAs a week ago a sun then flying over to Europe, I think he has more in the tank.
Probably will get in on ranking
Why wasn’t there anyone in the stands?
You missed the memo. You're supposed to say only Eugene has poor attendance and everywhere else in the world has great support for track.
He’s fast.
looks like the real deal.
The US trials vs a D level meet in Italy should not expect the same kind of attendance.
and the population of lignano is around 1/30 eugene's
but i've gotta assume it's way easier to get to, and you're not spending $400 a night on a crappy motel room once you're there
How is it that some little meet in Italy has WAY better camera work than the crap we have to put up with from USATF/Runnerspace??
Joe was absolutely spent after that race. He worked hard that last lap. I suspect, however, that he can run 3:31-32 this summer because travelling from the West Coast all the way to Europe is tiring. The first race in Europe is rarely the fastest. It takes a long time to get over the jet lag, plus he won by a second and now with a 3:34 to his name he may be able to get in races with a bit faster fields. The main thing is having the confidence to get out behind the pacers and really go for the time (and they were not going that fast, 800m-1:54, 1k in 2:21), rather than running extra on the turns, dealing with traffic, and giving himself a great deal to do the last lap.

I was thinking that, too. LOL.
I'm guessing it has to do with labour costs.

yeah, I agree. People are criticizing him for not "going for it" and taking the 2nd or 3rd place behind the pacers, but I think he didn't great (tired, weary) to begin with from his traveling and just did the best that he could. Regardless of time, at least he moves up points wise.
...didn't look great (tired, weary) to begin with...

Right?!? That drone shot coming into the final turn looked frickin' sweet. Wish we could get more interesting camera work at US meets.
Would be nice if he could slide into the London DL 1500 next weekend. Unlikely, perhaps. But he'd get the standard for sure.
Here is the race. The drone footage is great. And yeah, this coverage is way better than the crap at USAs. Waskom passed like 8 guys with 300 meters to go.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
