Nike Marketing Department owns both. Operated out of Beaverton. The webs is produced in India. Nike uses a majority of unpaid interns just out of college. These kids are the heart and soul of The Sport. Not enough credit is given to the interns and their parents for financial support. Be grateful.
So the world series of track gets less spectators than the average Tuesday night baseball game and some people call it a success. When you set low standards, you set your role in sport hierarchy as low and irrelevant.
27,462: That is a record number of ticketed spectators for any @USATF Outdoor Championships hosted in Track Town, U.S.A.
So was the meet a bigger success than we all thought or is this still sad?
Is that double / triple / quadruple counting everyone who went on more than one day? It was a four day meet so the actual single-day high might be less than half of that then.
I wasn't super impressed with the attendance. But I think it was more than last year which is a low bar.
Highly Suspect and Suspicious behavior when a month ago Nike slashed ticket prices and free tickets to athlete's friend and family. Apparently it's Nike's boosting the seat numbers. Also Nike Beaverton orchestrates dozens of shell entities as a public charade, allegedly Runnerspace, Track Town, USATF, Oregionian, Register-Guard, Milesplit,, and more I presume from what fans tell me.
They should give out free tickets, then charge $4 for a pop/water/soda. Like the airport!
What airport has free tickets?
Joking. I get it.
USATF will claim that 27k is a huge success because the 2022 championships only got @13k. Of course, 2022 was still in the shadow of the pandemic with a lot of people reluctant to travel.
But why build a 25k seat stadium if the best you can do is 7-8k a night? Why didn't Nike build a facility in a major metro area where they could realistically see 15-20k in attendance? LA, San Diego, Chicago, Washington DC, etc. are all places where summer weather is reasonable if not ideal. They all have major airports and huge local population that would help fill the stadium.
If that's for four days in the capital of track and field--sad. Per day--Ok then.
A renaissance fair is bigger.
27,000 is puny. The SVDP Service Center on Highway 99 and Eugene Mission feed and house more economically distressed humans per day.
You should have seen the parking situation at the Oregon Country Fair 15 miles nw of Hayward Field. They were flying more freak flags over the weekend at the campground than international flags outside the stadium. They also limited their attendance to the smaller, more manageable crowd size they had last year of 45, 000.
That means they averaged about 7k a day. That's terrible. The Iowa High School State meet averages about 13k a day over 3 days and about 40k total.
How many of those were actual fans that did not have a family member participating at the Iowa HS State meet? How many hs athletes participated at the state meet?
It does need to move away from Eugene, rotate it around the country. USATF should make it easier for other locations/facilities to hold the champs. This goes to the point that while Nike is a huge supporter of USA T&F, they sway too much power.
