It’s the weakest event on the men’s side. Bor and Jager are on their way out. Teare would have the most natural talent out of any American at that event. We don’t have a medal threat right now. He won’t do it but sounds reasonable.
So why not run the race that is 3000m? He’s 6’ 2”.
The best steeplechasers are generally tiny little men. 6'2" isn't tiny.
I am sure you’re correct Malmo but it is interesting that Girma is about 6 foot, El Bakkali 6’3 maybe and Jager 6’2, so Teare’s height may not be a problem per se, although I have no idea whether he would take to the event.
The new Evan Jager. Jager was a 3:32 1500m and 13:02 5,000m. Teare is sitting at 3:32/13:06, so very very similar. Jager was 23 when he did his first steeple, Teare is 23 now. Maybe he should do a steeple race in Europe this summer before it's too late (he turns 24 on August 18th)

You get physically stronger and practice hurdle mobility/technique.
Run your 5k pace while hurdling.
Change gears and kick over hurdles and a water jump.
There are plenty of steeplers who have poor hurdle technique, stutter step, etc. Fix that and you'll drop 10+ seconds.
Agreed. More 1,500/5,000 runners in general should consider the steeple imo. There are 4 guys at 12:41 or better already in the 5,000, and I honestly don't believe any will be considered the favorite going into Budapest. The depth at the World level is crazy these days, even the USA now has probably 6/7+ guys in 13:00 shape or better.
Outside of Girma and El Bakkali this event is weak. Past his prime Evan Jager coming off years of injuries managed to get 6th last year at World's. You wont get top 6 in the 5,000 without being in sub 12:45 shape.

[ Most of] the best [fill in the blank 1500m- marathon] runners are generally "tiny little men" [ from East Africa]. So yes the Steeplechase is no different and the hurdles do not seem to be a figurative major barrier to overcome for these speedy little guys. But I do not think being small is any sort of advantage in the Steeplechase and being taller with longer legs certainly could present an advantage for an already very good distance Runner.

There is no advantage in being tall. No one clears the barriers from the top of their head. Barriers are cleared from the bottom of their butt. A taller runner is going to be a heavier runner. More weight means more energy to lift the body 35 times over the course of the race. Also, a tall runner's natural take off point is further in front the barrier, which means a longer trajectory from take-off to landing, frequently causing awkward rotation over the barrier, while the short guys just pop up and drop down. Shorter runners are able to perform spectacular victory dances when they win (most times).
