Mental and emotional health is a cause I'm passionate about since I've had personal experience with loved ones struggling. If someone who reads this is close to Mr. Mackey, I would urge you to encourage him to seek the help of a therapist. It will be his choice ultimately and he might be resistant, but a good therapist (good as in $200-500 an hour out of pocket, good referrals) could really help him get to a better place in the shortest amount of time with the least amount of needless additional suffering.
Think of it like this... He has suffered the mental and emotional health equivalent of what a broken arm is for physical health. While well wishes and emotional support are helpful in both situations, ultimately it would be a medical care for the broken arm that is needed in the physical health situation, same as what is needed with what appears to be a mental and emotional health problem.
