That’s the right decision. Trying to double would compromise Mu’s chances in the 800 since the 1500 is first on the schedule at WC.
Something that’s really funny is that after the 1500 semifinals, in Johnson’s interview she was asked about Mu and if she was worried about her speed and kick and Johnson said something to the effect that she wasn’t worried about her and the 1500 isn’t the 800.
This maybe could be viewed as a diss toward Mu, but could have also been misinterpreted. Either way that’s kind of ironic given how the final turned out.
Also, Mu had said before USA's that she was only running the 800 at Worlds. So the other 1500 runners weren't worried about Mu taking a spot from one of them.

Yes, I remember Mu saying that. But, it is also true that none of the other 1500 runners actually believed Mu would finish top 3.
Athing then hedged a bit in post race interviews, deferring to Bobby about decision on running both. When she said no one thought she could do it (make the team in 1500) except Bobby who always believes in her, that part kinda made me sad. But she’s got her confidence back now - onward to Budapest in the 800!
When asked about Mu, didn’t she say she wasn’t worried about Athing because the 1500 is not like the 800 that’s it’s four laps and Mu will feel the pain of the heats the next day? Imagine to say all that and need Mu to compete at Worlds. Hilarious. She needs to be humble. I know she’s a fave here so I welcome the downvote but it’s still hilarious.

She did say something like that - there’s some question on the exact interpretation. To quote Alanis Morrissette, isn’t it ironic….

Haha I knew someone will bring this up. That’s why it’s good to keep your post race interviews short and sweet. I am sure she sees the irony in it. She has about 5 weeks till Budapest enough time to train and have a decent showing at worlds. Still a fan.
She's going to win Gold in the 800 again. This 1500 shows that she has more endurance and strength than ever before. She just needs to get her sharpness in place, she's going to be deadly ☠️☠️

Johnson won’t be a factor in the Budapest 1,500. Mu might have been.

No, but I'm glad Sinclaire is going to be on the team. She is a good runner and has been through a lot. Hope she at least makes the final, which I think she can.
I saw her right outside the exit of Hayward Field last night, and she seemed to be in a really great mood (considering the painful end to the 1500m the day before, this was a bit surprising). Now I know why!
I want to see all the clown user names who said she doesn’t race enough or would get crushed in the USATF 1500.
It would be fun to do that, but sadly it would take quite some time to find them all. There were many, it was depressing to see some of the things said about such a great athlete and role model.
I hope she wins another gold in the 800 in the World Championships. Next time she does a fun modeling gig during the off-season she should wear her medal collection as the perfect response to the haters.
The Tuohy fans have ruined this site and they try to ruin every young female runner. They made fun of Mu for dropping out of a mile. They claimed that she couldn't break 4:10. They accuse Valby and Wiley of doping. They insult Cook even though she ran faster than Tuohy in HS.
