Anything is better than living, going to school in downtown Portland. City used to be a great place. I applaud Jack for not becoming victim of chasing a HC title and coming to his senses. We need to stop saying "the old coach did a good job there" There is a reason he left people.
Portland is weird in my opinion. Albuquerque is dangerous. Not all Portland State student athletes will feel comfortable in ABQ.
Go outside, the world isn't as dangerous as you think.
Are you employed in some way be New Mexico tourist industry? I gave greater ABQ a shot. I considered buying (1 to 3) acres between ABQ and Santa Fe 7 or 8 years ago. As a so-called cure to New Mexico's crime problem, NM brought back death penalty, not going to fix anything. Are you going to make me work and post crime stats in ABQ?

He's coaching at UP. Different school, similar environment.
While I would not make it a practice to repeat what I did once, running back from the Sandia Mountains to ABQ near UNM, and I do recall the space in front of the condo we were renting as the perp walk, because there were so many troubled characters walking back and forth to the shacks and container buildings that passed for their low-income housing, I did not feel unsafe the vast majority of my time in Albuquerque. It is a great, great place to run, between Sandia Mtns and the Bosque, and it's fun to go to the old Route 66 fast food places. We enjoyed ourselves and I ran far better than I had ever done before. Joe Franklin will be missed. Then there is a train between ABQ and Santa Fe, which opens up a lot more feasible places to live and train.
PSU is cutting back to distance only. cut field people and coaches. jack called his first team meeting and excluded 80% of the current team and included people who left the team. probably realized his team only has three to five men running for him in the fall as most have transferred. female team has 12 runners but last years top 5 are gone. going to be a rocky start and difficult 1st year for a young coach with clueless athletic department.

surely jack knew the exact situation he was getting into. so why did he take the job in the first place.

Albuquerque isn't that violent. The murder rate is only around 20/100k. I lived in a city that's apparently the most violent in the country (around 60/100k murder rate) yet never saw a violent crime.
Yep they are laying water lines and such North of Albuquerque to Santa Fe, but ABQ itself is imploding....not many years ago one of the women XC runners was mugged/robbed unharmed outside a Walmart...I tried living there left with a year, crime sucks.
Benrunfast please. portland is on a hill side overlooking a river in more serene location. Sure you can find the gross within a 3 mile drive, but it's as different as two locations can be. Nice try
New Mexico does not have a death penalty as part of the penal code.
I guess you are correct. I left late 2016. It passed in their legislature when I left. It was a stupid plan. How would death penalty solve West Mesa Murders?
