I don’t quite understand this but think it is great. Nike sponsors Florida but this keeps her with the swoosh (probably rules out her transferring to a non Nike school)
I remember talking to an agent friend I have about Chez. They said why would Nike offer him a contract when he is already running for Nike at UO?
She signed an NIL deal with Nike. Previously Nike signed Charles Hicks to an NIL deal, but Parker is their first female runner. Similarly Adidas signed an NIL deal with Katelyn Tuohy. It means they they get paid for their name, image, likeness promoting Nike in ads/social media posts, but can still retain their NCAA eligibility (not fully going pro)
The NIL deals at first really confused me but not so much anymore. Rather than throw major bank at these athletes, you throw them a smaller amount of cash and get them for a trial run.
But I have no idea how much less these deals are than if they were full time pros? Does anyone know? Do they get 25%, 50%, 75% of a normal contract? I have no idea.
Can't wait to see her in Nike ads. Valbymania is slowly sweeping the nation! 2023 NCAA Outdoor 5,000m Champion!
