800m runners seem to be like major league pitchers. Its a tricky balance between peak performance and broken.

I hope he doesn’t race or better yet try to take the field into the twilight zone. I don’t want to see history repeat itself, and he doesn’t show up to run bad. I wish him the best of luck coming back for the Olympic year.

Lastly, it’s clear to see Pete Julian Is a terrible coach for the most part or has very bad luck. Look at Rayvn Rogers she is not the same. Craig Engels has fallen way off.

I had to get Achilles surgery. He had Haglunds deformity like all these other pros (and me). It's such a debilitating injury with such a lengthy recovery. The problem is the surgery only corrects the symptoms, which is calcaneous bone spurs, but you never really correct why they started forming in the first place. In my case, it was high arches putting strain on my achilles.

That's discouraging. I'm scheduled to undergo an endoscopic procedure for Haglund's on my left heel at the end of August. I'm having it done in Japan, where I live.
Below is a link to a paper published by the doc who will be doing the surgery. Seems like a pretty good rate of return to normal activity.
It's an endoscopic procedure, and he doesn't detach the Achilles from the calcaneus. So maybe that explains the high success rate.

I agree with you about them importance of finding the underlying cause of the Haglund's. I have fairly high arches, too, so that may also be the cause in my case.
Regarding Brazier, I've long noticed that he has a lot of outward rotation of the foot (toe-out) during push-off, which may cause the Achilles to twist laterally against on the back of the calcaneus.
You can see him toeing out pretty clearly at around 2:57 of the video below. Of course, all of this is just my (minimally informed) speculation.90 -
Brazier is an incredible talent when healthy. I wish him a full and healthy recovery for 2024

Mine was not endoscopic. My entire achilles was detached, so hopefully you have more success than me. I was young and not well guided through this process, so I kind of just found the nearest doctor that would do it (RIP).

Well if it's any consolation, I think the endoscopic approach was adopted fairly recently.

And just as another data point, Steve Cram is another middle distance runner who had pretty severe toe-out and frequent Achilles/calf problems.
Better Training for Distance Runners (Peter Coe and David Martin) had a photo that showed Cram's toe-out pretty clearly. In the book, Peter Coe remarked that it may have explained some of Cram's injuries.00 -

True for pretty much every elite athlete. A lot of people get in the injury cycle and can never get off.
And he is rapidly burning through his prime.
