i guess someone is afraid to get beaten by a guy with the initials J.I.
Given Wightman's history of frequent racing and that this is the third race (I think) he's scratched from recently (with or without Jakob), I fear this is more indicative of a lingering problem with his injury from earlier in the year. Hope he is able to compete at world's.

Yeah it’s looking somewhat bleak. He’s been promoted for London and of course there’s British Champs. We’ll see what he does
Is Tanner new to the field? Possible I missed him. Small field (13 racers), though it’d be cool if they add an intriguing name or two (Laros, Nader). Bunch of guys are already in Ostrava.

wightman has been around for a long time, and what he did last year was nothing short of spectacular. he may have one more card up his sleeve, but odds are that was peak wightman and he won't scale that high of a mountain again.
you can forget about him having anything for worlds this year.
I sincerely hope Wightman is ready to make a credible defense of his title. It stinks when the reigning champ is not even on the track. I’m sure nobody wants this more than Jakob. He wants the bad taste of Eugene gone, but to truly do this, he needs to defeat a fit Wightman. Otherwise, there will remain the lingering, but ifs….
Dodge minor competitions to avoid injury before the WC. Dodge minor competitions because they're 'peaking' for the WC. Dodge minor competitions because the WC is over and they're taking a break. These athletes are so TRASH.
IF THEY DON'T PARTICIPATE IN A CERTAIN NUMBER OF DL OR TOUR EVENTS IN A SEASON THEN THEY SHOULD NOT GET TO GO TO THE WC OR OLYMPICS. STOP REWARDING NO SHOWS.

Wightman didn't scratch. He never intended to run Lausanne.

I saw him on the start list on their website a couple of days ago so if he didn't intend to run, the organisers certainly didn't know until recently
I don't think Wightman is still injured, just not fit enough. He has a free entry to worlds so he can use that to maximize his fitness, but not sure it will be enough to medal or even make the final.
The field also lost Reynold Cheruiyot. Considering I believe he was the one of the only Kenyans without a bye (Moraa, Korir and Chebet have byes) in the meet or the next one perhaps it’s unsurprising. His management team probably wants to keep him in Kenya with a competitive 1500 to come to make the squad.
