Why Jakob Ingebrigtsen might be delusional (about his own capabilities)…

He consistently smacks the top Euro 10k runners who are 27-low in Euro Cross so he should be able to break 27 easily. Getting into the sub 26:40 type shape to medal like Cheptegei or Kiplimo is another thing

Grant Fisher has run 26:33. Don't we think Jakob could go a little quicker? I mean there is a good chance he is in world record shape over 5k, or at least sub-12:40, especially after his stunning performance at worlds last year and the 2 mile record this year. I don't think that sub-26:30 would be unrealistic in perfect conditions.

Jakob is 22 years old and is focused on the 1500/mile.

There is not much physiologic difference between the 5 and the 10k, and even with the HM... Jakob is world class for sure in those distances. With a sub 12:40 shape and a high mileage and threshold based training you can't be wrong in the HM.

The marathon is a different story. We'll see how he does there but I don't expect him to be a WR contender ever.

Prior to the 2 mile record, I was confident he could run sub 26:40. Now I think it's more like sub 26:30.

Since when does a person's ability to run fast prevent them from being able to run a fast 10k? Or marathon? Do you think Ingebrigtsen isn't running enough miles to have the stamina for longer races? I suspect it would only take a few months for him to adjust his training to be ready for a world-class marathon if he chose to.

Exercise Physiology just wasn't his thing.
