Newbury park not trying to rebuild

Just saw the post, weird. The school will still have a team, why call it “the end?”

Is it just saying some affiliated club headed by the Youngs and Sahlmans won’t continue?

I heard in Tanya’s XC state meet interview that the underclassmen on the team want to achieve what c/o 2023 has achieved

Only 16 year olds care about Newberry Park's dynasty.

Especially since Lex, Leo, and Aaron weren't actually running for the school. They quit months ago.

The "excuse" is that account isn't a school account, it's for the club team. But it doesn't present that way (it even mentions the high school team). Seems like a middle finger to those kids who will be running for the high school next year.

Brosnan’s wife took over the program last year and now she has left too. It was obvious she was there to make sure everyone got though this past year. The team in the 2021 cross country is considered one of the best HS sports teams ever in any sport. Very cool to look back on.

Mission accomplished! Sean got a sweet college job and The Brosnans are done with Newbury Park. It was never about the school, the community, or the kids. Goodbye and good luck.

The club was set up specifically for Lex and Leo and it was only intended to last until they graduated high school, which they have now done.

There is no way a college coach is going to take time out of his busy schedule to coach a bunch of average high school runners.

This is not fully correct. That account is Sean Brosnan's account. There is a different account now that will be the official team account for NPHS.

But we don't plan to rebuild. We plan to continue, which will require a lot of hard work after losing such amazing runners on their way to their college careers. But the current runners are deeply committed to continued success at the highest level possible.

You are not alone in interpreting it this way.

It was a great post paying tribute to the kids who graduated and coaches who left. It truly was an era that was never seen before.

No, he actually does. He created it while here and has run it ever since. I don't know why that seems difficult to believe that he still runs it. He created it and is the only one who has the login info. That's why we had to create a new one to continue IG presence because it was not passed down to us to continue to use. 🤷‍♂️

Quick add on edit: why do you think that account only posts about those still coached by Sean and those entering into UCLA? Do you think our HS kids are posting that?

Its a HS, what are they supposed to do, hit up the transfer portal?

I saw the post and it brought tears in my eyes. I was inspired by what Newbury Park did over the past years. They truly inspired myself to get my athletes to run fast and reach their goals. I’m not sure we will see anything like this ever again in our life time. I think the post was a great little honor to the coaches and athletes who recently have left.

Outsider looking in here. If you follow high school XC, you know how ridiculously good they were. Well above what any team has ever accomplished. With Leo, Lex, and Aaron departing, that ends a spectacular era.

I don't read it as a middle finger at all. Just acknowledging something truly special has ended. One can acknowledge greatness without diminishing others. No shade on the NPXC team going forward.
