Chris Hansen with a great article on Simeon Birnbaum and Connor Burns and the Dream high school mile today that has some great quotes from Birnbaum and Burns.
"“They've been dodging (competition) all year,” Burns said. “Honestly, I was really surprised when I saw they're gonna run this race. I couldn't believe it. I was like, ‘Oh, holy crap. The gods are falling from heaven.’”
Birnbaum didn’t hold back either.
“I think what's most exciting is a lot of the time whenever you win, like a big race, there's always someone in the comments saying, ‘Oh, but the Newbury Park boys weren't there. Oh, Lex and Leo weren't there,’” he said. “They kind of try to take a little bit away from the moment. They haven't raced high school all year so to have them finally decide to do an event and just line up with us is really exciting.”."
I don't follow the high school scene too closely but wouldn't say they've been dodging too much. They had bigger goals. Junior World XC, getting the high school national 5000 record. There is a bigger pond than high school races in America but glad to see everyone racing today.
