She should REALLY consider trying out the 1500. Like, I know it's a letsrun tradition to suggest someone should move up in events, especially to the 800 or 1500, but it definitely seems like she could be good at this. It just feels like there's a number missing from her wheelhouse to run that 1:55.77.
52.24 is a nice PR and just what you’d expect given her previous 400 PRs: 52.61 in August ‘21, 52.42i in February ‘22, 52.41 in June ‘22.
It’s always seemed pretty obvious she was more of an 800-1500 type who was running some 400s and 600s to address her weakness versus the Athing Mus of the world. Not only the ratio between her 400 and 800, but the facts she ran 4:47 as a 12 year old kid and 4:30.00 at 15 when her 800 PR was 2:06.85. I know 4:30.00 is a long way from world class, but if you’ve followed a bit of girls’ high school running you’ll know a 2:06.85/4:30.00 15 year old likely has some serious 1500 potential.
On another thread recently someone posted that her coach said he thinks she could run 4:03-4:05 this season provided a few 1500-specific workouts. He knows better than I do, but if anything that seems conservative for a 52.2/1:55.77 woman; 2:10 through 800 would feel awfully comfortable to her.
As a fan I hope she starts experimenting with the distance after Paris ‘24, not to replace the 800 but just to expand her range and future options. At a minimum I think she can run 4:00-4:01 in her career and throw down an excellent 1K; at best she could be in Muir territory in several years.

I wasn't even thinking about 1k. She could throw down something serious.
52.24 is slower than I expected, especially for an early-season 800 time. Like, way slower. Putting those two together, we get:
Nah it is exactly what you would expect a 800m runner to have. She isn't speed based (sub 51) or an endurance monster (like a 53.5). She is a normal 800m gal. Who has a better wheels than most of the field...
Keely seems to be a pure 800m runner and I don't see a problem with that. There will probably be less spread between the big 3 in the WC than if they went head to head over 400m.
Hodgkinson is very unlucky with threads like these.
One moron creates stupid "Keely Hodgkinson is in 1:52 800m fitness. No quetsion." thread to prompt exactly same certain comments and then this here. No need to praise her PB CR as these were "only" England U23s, so you should first check at least UK season top list (8th) before you write something. She would like to make UK 4x400 team, but 8th is 8th, so it's enough for Euro U23 only as for now.
So pls search existing threads and add there as her PB is not notable enough for a new thread (51 low would be) and thus you have such El Keniano playing smart and upvoted with things that those interested have long known.

But why bother with the 1500?
Keely already has a very high probability of medaling in the 800 at every global championship over the next few years. Maybe even winning gold at one or two of them, especially if Mu continues to be distracted by modelling and keeps expressing a lack of desire for running.
Run the 1500 so that Keely can maybe be top 10 or top 20 in the world? It makes no sense, just like it makes no sense for Mu to move to the 1500 like Bobby Kersee claims that she will be doing.
Keely is an 800 specialist, and she should stay focused on the 800.

She said she was hoping for 51. Feels she can run that but it was windy. She was still a little disappointed even with the wind
With a 52 low at this stage of season not hard to think that she’s mid 51 in 4 weeks in better conditions. While I think she’s rightly more focused on medals than times it really seems that she could get down to 1.54 or even 1.53 high by august. Just a phenomenal talent.
