I am glad someone got it right. A marathoner that if firing on all cylinders would never compete in a race like this. She is no longer a contender, just a pretender.

The 6K in Canton OH is on the USATF road race circuit and there is $20,000 in prize money, typically distributed to the top 10. So, the opportunity to win some money helps with the bills and a higher placing looks good to sponsors. With a women's only field the race will attract some attention and she might even get some appearance fee, and be a featured speaker.
Bring the downvotes on, but those are some reasonable facts.
Riding the "Olympic bronze medalist" while not being that caliber anymore. True that she will always have that, good for her. But it appears she knows if she did run one that her ability to make money from sponsors and appearances may take a hit. So she's essentially capping right now. But again, can you really blame her for being aware and intelligent enough to maximize her clout with what she's equipped with and acknowledge her fitness is not ideal? No.
