Syracuse
She ought to take up weight training in the future.
I have no inside information but I have heard 'Harvard" thrown around a lot. I'm sure Ramsden's NCAA win makes that option even more appealing.
Clubhouse leader is staying close to home to attend Harvard.
Harvard would be the best bet. Her mother swam for Princeton.
By the way she skipped NON this year after running both Brooks and NON the last two years.
She is entered in the 1500, 3000, and 5000 at USATF U20.
Silly to pay $340K when she could go to Michigan or Notre Dame or Duke for free.
Lots of people who don't know Ellie Shea have imagined that she is going to Harvard, but that's only them guessing.
Ellie Shea is very quiet and doesn't speak much, even with the other runners, so very few people really know what she is thinking.
Although I will admit that a team of Maia Ramsden, Ellie Shea, and Sophia Gorriaran would be very interesting.
Probably Harvard or Stanford. Belmont is a town with lots of highly educated/wealthy people. Saw this with Whittaker and Gorriaran--both have sisters at Penn and wouldn't sacrifice education for running.
Are you a moran?
Just to expand on this: if she were to go to (for example) Stanford or Duke, there'd be far more pressure for her to perform as her scholarship could get cut. By going to a 'fake' D1, she won't have that pressure. She's also from greater Boston so that makes sense
Her parents are well off. She woukd pay the full $340K. Please don't start with one of these secret scholarship things again. My son ran for Princeton and we paid full price. He had a classmate who played football at Harvard who paid full price. There are no academic or athletic discounts.
Silly logic to willingly pay $340K as opposed to going for free because there is a slight chance of an issue later. Most conferences are now guaranteeing scholarships unless the athlete does something to cause it to get pulled.
Ellie Shea is a loner. She might want to go to a school where she is clearly the best female runner, so she can do workouts by herself. She's not a bad person, she just likes doing things by herself, that's all. Some people are like that.
So going to a top distance school like Stanford, where she would be one of 10 great runners doing all their workouts together, might not be the type of situation she is looking for.
Harvard and actually all of the ivies and top 20 schools have generous fin aid. If family income less than 125k, school is free if admitted. Up to $250k annually still some aid. The typical let's run parent makes way more than that, but has trust funds set up to pay the bill. Yes they could save that money for grad school, if kid goes to Stanford, but since that money was earmarked for undergrad they are happy to just pay it. Running then just ensures that they are admitted.
Obviously, the tough spot to be in is making 250-300k, which is a little below the trust fund line. These families get the squeeze, no aid but school cost expensive.
She might prefer to work on the East Coast or in certain industries where Stanford has bad representation in (not because of weakness, but because far fewer alumni want to enter such an industry. Obviously for the ones who do want it, placement is basically as good.) I certainly did and that was a thing I kept in mind when choosing my (east coast) college.
But I actually learned to spell there unlike other alumni :)
I guess price could be a consideration, but I was fortunate enough that it wasn't for me.
Your statement is quite misleading. Savings also count in the formula. A family who has been married for 25 years maxing out the 401k and paying off the house all while investing heavily in the market, will pay full price almost regardless of income if they watched the market double and triple amd quadruple over that time. 50% of Harvard students pay full price. 75% of the distance runners pay full price.
Silly statement. Why not go for free and take the $340K at graduation amd purchase a condo and car rather than choose Harvard?
