He may not have known how to run it but he sure knew all the illegal techniques that his coach Al Sal used.
Gags was fat and did okay

Bowerman and Elliott both ran 400m in college.

Look guys my point is Ritz wasn't even aware of how to train for 1500 or mile. It was never his event. At least Tiger Woods's coach was probably decent at golf
It's not much of a point. Almost any coach who's coached sub four minute milers never ran one himself. Lydiard coached two, Bob Timmons coached three, Bowerman coached at least six and I believe there were others I can't think of. None of them came anywhere close to running a four minute mile. How fast was Peter Coe's mile time.

Bowerman ran on Oregon's mile relay back in the 30s and he ran ca. 48-49 for the 440, coached by Bill Hayward.
Good catch, that was wild!!!!

Dathan was a pure distance runner, not mid d. This is like the running equivalent of Ted Lasso.
So I guess Patrick Sang should be suspicious for coaching Kipchoge considering he's never gone close to 2:01 in the Marathon himself?
Your Logic is worse than mine
Ritz is a prime example of those that can't do teach.

The success his athletes are having are because he doesn't train them like a 1500m runner would.
A 1500m specialist would traditionally have much more of an emphasis on speed. What Jakob, and this generation of milers are doing, is showing that this is not the best approach. Developing the aerobic system is far more beneficial.
the background you need is in pharmacy
ON hit the jackpot with deciding to be aggressive coming out of Covid and signing everyone. Kudos to them.
It helps when you get a few of the best milers to come out of the ncaa in a while.

Who is Dathan Ritzenheimer??????
The greatest 800m runner ever was coached by f*cking priest.
The greatest marathoner of all time is coached by a former steeplechaser.

What credentials do you have Dougy?
You must be a really, really bad teacher??
Did Dathan have TUEs? TUEs are legalized cheating. Definitely not as bad as explicitly saucing though.
Do you really think the coach should be faster than his athletes to be a great coach? C'mon.
My college coach had been a sprinter. Didn’t stop him from winning 16 straight conference titles.
..and he has run 2:07 for the marathon let's not forget
If AlSal coached Dathan similarly to how he coached Galen and Mo, Dathan has experienced good 1500 training.
I've got to believe he could have run at least 3:35 at the peak of his powers (07-09) Maybe better.
